Organizations work to meet certain set goals. For the attainment, of these goals and objectives, the various parties in an organization need to be constantly motivated so as to work with efficiency. Motivation acts as fuel to their working energy and rewards is this energy. In a man’s life, changing ambitions that characterize his day to day work depend on changing ambitions based on the leadership style in the work place. Motivation thus depends on the level to which workers are motivated.
Worker’s motivation can be based on monetary as well as non monetary factors. As such, building rapport could act as a way of motivating the workers. This could be done by putting up questions that clearly clarifies the expectations. positively set questions counteracts negative feelings in the work place as the questions enable workers to produce feed back and accept criticism without negative effects to their morale (Steinmetz,1983)
Respect to the work place is another way through which motivation can be achieved. Respect in the place of work is a reward that whose effects may take time to recognize, but the fact is workers who feel that their position and work are respected gain inner pride and confidence. Respect thus enables a worker to work with minimum supervision as they know that their decisions will be respected and not ignored. Respect to other peoples opinion enables them feel that they mean much to the organization (Weightman, 2008)
Another important motivating factor is independence. Independence in the work place enables workers to know that their qualification and skills are appreciated. Independence motivates people to give their best as they believe that the job they do is part of them. When one is allowed independence, he/she won’t seek to lazy around as would be the case where independence is absent (Steinmetz, 1983)
If the management allows workers to work in a liberal environment, creativity will have a free space to sprout. This will encourage self motivation, which is an, advantage to the organization. Self motivated workers produce quality and quantity output. Letting workers work in a tension free environment will enable them be visionary not only to the accomplishment of personal goals abut also for the organization. This tool is important for, if infringing authority is exercised at the work place, workers will feel that they are trapped, and this has a negative effect to their level of motivation (Weightman, 2008)
Another important motivator in the work place is where workers are allowed to participate in self motivated projects. If the worker is allowed to work on a project that he has initiated from start to completion, he will feel a winner. This is a great source of motivation and a tool that can be used by management to ensuring that workers are motivated to the completion of organization’s objectives (Carver, 2001)
In conclusion, it shall be noted that tools for motivation are beyond monetary rewards and could go beyond to involve non monetary rewards like the ones discussed here above. This, however, does not mean that monetary rewards do not have any effect (Carver, 2001). They too just like non monetary rewards play a vital role. This is with the realization that in this world controlled by capitalist interests, people will work for monetary benefits, and any rewards in this form will be a great motivator.
