Pride and Prejudice (1940)
The film Pride and Prejudice was produced in 1940 being adapted from a novel of the same title by Jane Austen. Robert Z. Leonard directed the film with Aldous Huxley serving as one of the screenwriters. There are many characters in the film. They are as listed below. The first character in the film is Elizabeth Bennet, who is the heroine of the story. The key events and characters of the story are brought out through her. The other character is Mr. Darcy. Our opinion about him follows that of Elizabeth. He begins the film as the very embodiment of arrogance and pride. The film depicts him as the most disagreeable and proudest person in the world.
Mary Bennet is presents to give an impression of seriousness. She is embarrassed while endeavoring to play piano because of her inappropriate choice of song and weak voice. Despite being older than Lydia Bennet, who is only 15 years old, Kitty Bennet is dominated by the forceful personality of her younger sister. These two sisters have appetite for Flirtation. Lydia is the youngest of the sisters and is her mother’s favorite. She resembles her mother. Other actors and actresses in the film include Mr. Bingley, Caroline Bingley, Mr. Collins, George Wichham, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, The Lucas Family, Georgiana Darcy, Colonel Fitzwilliam, Mr. and Mrs. Hurst and Gardiner, and Mrs. Philips who is the sister to Mrs. Bennet.
The movie is a very nice adaptation of the novel presenting the five unmarried sisters seeking husbands in the 19th century England. The film also has classic comedy of manners.
