Based on the topic of interest you identified in the previous discussion (Lesson 3) for what purpose would your topic be? Discuss why you think this is the purpose. Your response would indicate your understanding of the readings in this module.
The topic that I chose is about the protection of the environment. The purpose of this topic is to educate the audience about what is happening with our environment today. The aim of the speech is to explain clearly about global warming and its effect on our environment. This is the purpose of the speech because it is my goal to create awareness among the audience regarding the importance of protecting the environment. I believe that my chosen topic has a universal appeal; thus, even if my audience is composed of individuals of different ages, religion and educational level, they will appreciate my chosen topic. My goal is to make them realize that even in their own little ways they can help save the environment. After listening to my speech, I hope that I can inspire and convince them to take some action for the environment.

Continuing the discussion regarding your topic of interest, what type of research would you do and what kind of materials would you look for to support your topic?
In order to make my speech interesting and at the same time educational, I plan to supplement my speech with visual aids. If time permits, I would like to show a short video presentation about global warming because this will make my audience understand it better. Furthermore, I will search the internet for scholarly articles about what brought about global warming and why it is bad for the environment. Other materials that I will be looking for are organizations which were created for the main purpose of finding ways to protect the environment. In this way, my audience can choose to join these organizations to help their cause. In addition to these information, through a web-based research, I plan to search for articles which suggests ways on how ordinary individuals, like those in my audience can help save the environment.
