Introduction
Having a class management plan in each class is an essential part of learning. This is because it helps ensure and maintain discipline, which is paramount for learning to take place. Class management is also a way to help save time wasted on punishments, which would otherwise be spent punishing the students or trying to bring back order in the classroom (McLeod, Fisher, & Hoover, 2003, p. 45). For this particular case, the plan is most useful since it being a tenth grade class and during the first week of school; students are likely to be rebellious,
Classroom Rules
1. Classroom arrangement.
The teacher should have a say in how the students sit in class. All students should a good view of the teaching board and the teacher should have a good view of them. Teachers should also sit away from the windows and if space allows it, a distance from the walls. Students who are close friends should also not be allowed to sit together. The arrangement should allow for easy movements of both the teacher and students, as well as flexible enough to allow for class activities.
2. Disruptions in class.
When setting rules to deal with distractions in class, students should get involved in this. This is necessary for them to appreciate that in the chance they break any rules, consequences will follow. Any student caught distracting a class should be reprimanded. Students may distract the class as a way of trying to communicate something. A good teacher will therefore take time to know about the student. If the student needs special help, the teacher should make plans for that. It would also help if the teacher was consistent on the set rules and the way they deal with students. They should also be able to keep the lesson going even after a distraction.
3. General conduct in class.
When making rules on this, other teachers can get involved. All students are supposed to behave in a way that will not be disruptive to the class. Student should never be late for their classes. There should always be silence in class. Students should also have their assignments done in time and independently, with the exemption of group work. Students should also respect each other and their teachers. This will maintain order and harmony in the class. For students who are a bit arrogant and rude, the teacher should keep repeating these rules to them, and the expected consequences in the chance that these rules are not followed to the letter.
In conclusion, rules and regulations should be made part of the learning process to ensure discipline all long. Discipline is paramount for effective learning to take place. A class management plan should be hand in hand with good teaching skills from the teacher.
