Homeless is a condition where individuals do stay without a regular dwelling. People who are homeless are often are unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe and proper housing (Kröll & Farhauer, 2014). Homeless is after caused by the natural calamities such wars, earthquake, droughts and famine, and also change in environmental conditions that cause migration of people to leave the home to search for other areas that may act to them as temporary homes (Stuart, 2015). In these homes, they may lack the fundamental necessities that are required for human survival this may be a lack of food and other basics primary needs that a human requires for survival (Austen & Pauly, 2012).
Homelessness results to various effects to the persons and the society as a whole. Homelessness may lead to health problems to an individual, these are problems such as mental illness since these individuals are not at mental peace and always experience stress on most occasions (Austen & Pauly, 2012). A homeless person may also turn to the practice of drug taking and drug abuse which may lead to the deteriorating of their health status and condition as a result of the environment they are staying. In many cases, homelessness has led to increasing cases of physical and sexual abuse which as a result negatively affect the health of individuals. The physical and sexual assault as may affect the life of children which may incur physical injuries and also affect their psychological development. Nutritional deficiency is also a health problem that comes as a result of homeless due to the low level of life in their surrounding environment. Social problems also arise due to the hard life situations of people. Development of individuals may not meet the set social norms and ethics in the society, both the young and adults may fail to develop the behaviors desired by them in the society (Stuart, 2015). People growing in homeless conditions may grow and join criminal activities which as a result may disturb the peaceful existence of individuals in a society around. Individuals may also develop lacking the self-esteem that drives individuals in order to become self-actualize and become self-independent. Homelessness also increases the rate of immorality in the given areas since the individuals are weary and are also jobless, these may lead to increases spread of social diseases leading to death affecting families and social life in general (Kröll & Farhauer, 2014).
Homelessness has very severe consequences and effects on the adolescent stage of human development. Individuals at this stage face challenge because this is the stage of transition from childhood to adulthood or to the young adult (Schneider, 2011). Adolescent is the stage where a person develops the sexual desires and the female individual may be affected may early pregnancy, the boys at adolescent may also contract dangerous diseases as a result of their sexual desire being at the peak. Adolescent due to the condition of the environment they may be highly immoral and even resist from school activities leading to their drop out from schools. Homelessness, therefore, causes harmful effects to the people at the adolescent stage and completely ruins the life of the individuals at this stage (Stuart, 2015). The children are also not excluded since they also suffer a lack of good food for growth leading stunted growth and deficiency disease in children. The children face a lack of appropriate shelters to protect them from harsh environmental conditions when the climate and weather conditions changes in the places they stay in.
Homeless has consequences that are long-term and affect the community that will be evident by time. Individuals that are involved in drug abuse practices may develop drug addiction as a long term consequence (Kröll & Farhauer, 2014). In cases where an individual has been drug addicted, it may he or she cannot survive without the drug, this result into the social vices such as robbery, sexual immorality and other criminal activities to enable them to obtain the money they require to purchase these drugs. The people addicted to these drugs also find also find it difficult to stop the habit leading to family problems, and these may result in a divorce putting the life the children in these families suffer psychologically when parents decide separate ways (Austen & Pauly, 2012). Homelessness results into education disability and illiteracy as a consequence. The condition may not favor children to attend to school activities and get the education required hence they drop out of schools leading increase illiteracy in the society. High illiteracy levels also result in a high number of unemployment and jobless individuals in a given society (Stuart, 2015).
Solution proposed.
Homelessness is a serious problem in many societies today and it needs to be addressed and provided with good solutions (Austen & Pauly, 2012). The problem of homeless is sometimes caused by the natural calamities and disasters which cannot be controlled by human beings. People who are have found homeless should be provided with primary needs and also good social facilities within the places they occupy as their homes. The government a, well-wishers and organizations that are capable of assisting should consider this as the fundamental issue and help to implement a policy (Schneider, 2011). By meeting the primary needs of the homelessness individuals they will be able to afford good food which will improve their lifestyle to the standard. Children will be able to grow without being affected by the deficiency disease since they are able to get food with nutrient components (Farrugia, 2010). Provision of good social facilities such as health, education and security enable children to maintain good health, get educated in a secure environment of social vices thus avoiding psychological torture and proper mental development. Homeless people can cause severe harm in the society and every society should implement this policy to solve the problem that arises from the situation. The solution helps the individuals affected to avoid the mental torture the come, as a result, it also helps the children born in search to be protected from the cognitive effects that hinder their growth (Farrugia, 2010).
