First, it is necessary to explain that the 21st century has brought exciting prospective and great challenges to the humanity. It is assumed that the US shift in economy, culture and wealth could have been caused by globalization, domestic economy and internal trade, as well as unemployment.
It would be appropriate to begin with an explanation of the term globalization, which refers to a process of cooperation and integration between humans, companies and governances or administrations of different countries (Huwart, Verdier 3). The process of globalization has effects on the economic development, culture, environment and human’s well-being, and also life standards all over the world.
The evidence of globalization is obvious in the case of tax havens. Currently, it is difficult to state the nature of tax havens, but it is evident that they let people and international corporations stay away from paying taxes (Huwart, Verdier 3). It could not be argued that these funds are not used profitably to contribute to economic growth. Moreover, the tax havens are also practiced by terrorist organizations and criminals.
Another feature of globalization is overpopulation, which is an acute issue in the today’s world and it also comes parallel with the process of globalization. The world population has enlarged most drastically in the years of globalization. It is worth pointing out that this process has provided the conditions necessary to produce and maintain the remarkable increase in population (Egües 2). Indeed, it should be noted that the US population growth occurred due to the tendency in the collaboration of enlarged number of births, decreased deaths and amplified immigration. The difference in the amount between people who leave the country and people who go into it is lessening and it leads to the growing need for energy, food, homes and clothes. This in turn provides the growth of resource deficit. Moreover, if the world’s population is getting bigger, it will be more environmental problems that we will have to contend with it. Besides, it would be unreasonable to assume that the humanity will be protected from these overpopulation effects. It is important to note that all world’s inhabitants are influencing each other either directly or indirectly.
Globalization helped to focus attention on the vital environmental damages we see today. Researches showed that globalization promoted deforestation, encourages CO2 emissions, which are connected with industrial activity and transportation. However, some international, national and regional strategies have decreased the negative effects of globalization on the environment (Huwart, Verdier 3). In addition, international economic competition partially gets in the way of finding a solution to environmental problems.
The essential point which should be distinguished is that another issue of the USA in the 21st century is domestic economy and internal trade. This idea is supported by the fact that globalization has been executed in order to direct, regulate and administer international trade by increasing productivity in the manufacture and distribution of products in a domestic trade market, as well as elevate economic performance. Additionally, the outgoings and profits of international trade depend on the quality and quantity of the country’s internal market and amount of resources that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain. Domestic producers manufacture more effectively because of their international orientation and specialization, as well as economic tension coming from foreign competition (Benson, Campbell-Magana, Gipson, Sharifi 1). Another advantage of this is that consumers can find a bigger amount of domestic and imported products and goods at lower prices. Moreover, another point which should be considered when talking about globalization is its impact on small business all over the country. Thus, for the owners and supporters of that type of businesses it is a great concern that they are not able to compete.
Enlarged production and labor outlay come with globalization, thereby making unqualified workforce more ineffective. It undeniably became the major concern. Another feature of globalization is that it has negative effects for the untrained workers in the USA. With the technological progress many occupations that are comparatively easy in performance have lost its value. The key point is that those jobs will be replaced by technology, which is more affordable in the long use than paying salaries to people to do the job (Huwart, Verdier 3).
One of the main points is that a free-trade environment is handling and administrating jobs outside of the USA to the countries where workers are able to receive much lower wages. For instance, these countries are India, China, etc. Some individuals would rather have restrictions and barriers on trade in order to maintain labor within the economy and decrease the outcomes of globalization. On the other hand, the amount of governments who are not willing to dispirit their wealth from international influence is growing. In the case of globalization this was perhaps the most obvious.
Globalization can be judged as negative or positive thing, but all elements of it are working with one finite goal which is to improve the economic state.
The relationship between globalization and unemployment is less obvious than it seems at first. The process of globalization tends to generate more working places throughout the country than it exterminates. It is also true to say that the total growth in salary inequality of the twenty years seems more connected to technological development and legislation than globalization, which in spite of this does certainly contribute to increased job insecurity (Huwart, Verdier 3).
A significant shift in the unemployment sector in most developed countries has been caused by the recent economic crisis. The losses of jobs in some sectors were indemnified by millions of job formations. New occupations have arisen, especially in the services industry. Logistics, registration, call centers, human resources, web design, health care sector, hotels and restaurants have offered over 2.5 million positions for people (Benson, Campbell-Magana, Gipson, Sharifi 1). These new service jobs generate more value-added than labor-consuming activities. Thus, it is undeniably true that situations vary from one industrial sector to another.
It is hard to deny that globalization is extremely controversial. Citizens of all nations should find the right balance between benefits and drawbacks which are related to globalization. In order to reach this goal, we all need to discern how it works and what outcomes we are facing.
The long-term effects of events and trends that took place in the 21st century still have to be fully comprehended and realized. We cannot predict which aspects that have been mentioned above would be on the increase to a crucial level. As humans, we are in charge of what is happening around us and we should be aware of the consequences of our actions not only for us as individuals, but for us as humanity.
