Marijuana should be legalized for recreational use because it is a relatively safer drug and can help to relieve stress better than smoking cigarettes, plus its common use might prevent people from smoking lethal drugs.
Aspirin is used to relieve fever and pain, such as a headache, toothache, the common cold, etc. An overdose or allergic reaction to the drug can cause a rash, heartburn, upset stomach, nausea, gastritis and even lead to bleeding. It may even lead to Reye’s syndrome (WebMD).
Morphine and Opioids are used for pain-relief and mostly as analgesics when a person is in a lot of unbearable pain and for the treatment of arthritis (Information). Morphine is used to reduce pain as well, and it is administered under the care of an experienced doctor or physician. There are many opioids, and they all carry different side effects. The most common ones are reactions in the body especially due to substance abuse in the past. Dependence is common as people with chronic pain ask for more when in pain and they can develop an addiction to the treatment (Information).
Alcohol use is related to crime and violent behavior. Intoxication caused by alcoholism can affect a person’s judgment and make them lose control over their feelings and emotions. Thus, if a person is prone to crimes, they would drink, get under the effect and commit the crime. Alcohol also triggers the truest emotions hence an angry or emotionally violent person would not have control over their actions when they are drunk. Drunk driving is another associated problem, for which the penalty is not too harsh because leniency will lead to more people drunk and driving that will endanger the lives of many others on the roads.
There are medical benefits of marijuana such as the scientifically proven; its help in treating cancer and reducing its growth, glaucoma, improve lung health harmed by cigarettes, help with epilepsy, decreases anxiety and ease the pain caused by MS (Welsh and Loria). It should be listed lower on the drug schedule since it is a helpful drug and not very lethal even in a high dose. Moreover, it helps many people with health problems.
Concerns raised by smoking tobacco are nicotine addiction and lung cancer and other cancers caused by substances inhaled in cigarette smoke. An area dedicated to smoking must be promoted by businesses and other organizations because they will prevent passive smoking.
For those suffering from opioid addiction, suboxone is an effective solution which is a derivative of the medicine buprenorphine that cancels the effects of opioids and helps people get over addiction (Inc). Carrying the same result. However, buprenorphine or suboxone is a milder agent as compared to methadone which is stronger. However, the slower action of suboxone prevents withdrawal in an addict (ATForum).
