Biology writing assignment
Part 1
Environment influence our lives in many ways. The aspect of writing is not left out among all factors that are being influenced by environment. The purpose of this paper is to highlights the findings gathered from exploring an author, his or her writings and the environment. A Typical case study in this paper is that which involves analysing Brian Morris, the author of 'insects and human life' wrote a book on insect and the relationship with humans.
The book written by this author has clearly shown it that there are social and cultural influences of the author's society on the content of his or her book. This can be seen from the concluding part of the Brian’s ‘insects and human life' book where the author stated the importance of insect on people’s lives. "This salience relates either to those insects that impinge on people’s lives in some way – damaging crops, inflicting stings, pests within the house-hold – or that are utilized as food or medicine, or are items of cultural significance" (Morris, pp. 217) actually shows the significance of the relationship between insects and human lives.
The relationship with a place changes over time with the writer's need for better understanding of the environment, the change in the climatic conditions and people's change of way of lives over time. The words shown in this writer book has showed the need for better understanding of the place to provide greater contents in subsequent writings. I will consider those ideas and changes as being ‘mainstream’ idea simply because of the content of the book which focus more on cultural and societal influences and relationship with humans. If we compare this to other forms of writing, and the relationship of writer’s ideas to the environment, we can easily deduce that environment most times influence author writings and perception.
Part 2
I actually found this statement "Enlarging the image too much results in ’empty magnification’ and the quality of the image deteriorates" (O’Farrell, pp. 2) while reading the writing by the author. The simple reason I will consider the statement provocative is that which relates to the enlargement of images too much and then subsequently affecting the quality of the image. I simply consider this not to be true simply because a microscope is meant to enlarge a micro image hence, how will that influence the quality of the image if such become much more enlarged.
After reviewing the writing of the book and comparing it with the first analyses made in the earlier part of the paper, I discovered that environmental effects and influences on writers perception and writings is of less important compared to what was found and highlighted in the initial part of the paper. This is not totally out of it because the writer view of the effect of image enlargement and quality might have been as a result of other people’s writings. Although not stated, the influence from other environmental findings noted by other authors and highlighted by this author may be the significant resources and factor that influence O’Farrell’s perception and writings.
