Have you ever tried to learn a foreign language? The best way of learning it is to surround yourself by those who use it and interact with them regularly; music can be learned in the exact same manner. Hence, interaction with my peers is, according to me, crucial in my quest to learn, and hopefully master, jazz music.
Unlike most young talented musician who begin their musical careers early, I decided to pursue music only after turning 21 years of age. This is when I bought my first guitar. As soon as I started to learn music, I was captivated by Jazz, which is an American form. Hence, I came to the US to learn it, to surround myself with those who are adept at the art of playing jazz.
As a musician, my foremost desire is to be a performer. I aspire to be a highly regarded jazz guitarist in the future. My life experiences have shaped my approach towards music and how it influences my being. To me, music is all about expressing my emotions, sharing my deep belief in love with anyone and everyone who listens to my music. I have known love all my life, being loved by my family and friends. I have also known heartbreak and betrayal. Through all these experiences, I have learned acceptance and my belief in love has been reaffirmed.
Having regained my faith, I decided to share my passion and knowledge for music by passing it on to whoever may be willing to learn. Jazz in South Korea is toddling now. I would like to eventually make the Korean people more aware about this most beautiful form of music so that they too can experience its warmth.
However, before I can become an instructor, I first need to be a good student. It is this purpose that brings me to Eastman School of Music, the best music school in USA, musically and academically. It has produced some of the most distinguished music talents of today. I believe that Eastman School of Music is the best place for a lover of jazz to learn, share and
interact with the existing and rising talents of the jazz fraternity.
In return, I bring to Eastman my passion and love for music and my ability to imbibe every facet of love into my music, be it serenity, sensuality, tempestuousness or purity. I will be able to share all that I have learned through 9 years of live performances. I am also eager to interact with people from various cultural background and introduce them to the South Korean culture as well. I strongly believe that music breaks boundaries and builds bonds, and would love to put this belief into practice through jazz.
