Founded in 1865, the Indiana State University (ISU) is a public learning institution that has a total of approximately 10, 100 undergraduate enrollments. ISU’s gender distribution includes 54% males and 46% female students. 35.5% of this number live in college or affiliated housing while the rest live off campus. The university is located about 70 miles southwest of Indianapolis in Terre Haute (Indiana State University par 1). The campus occupies 235 acres of land and has an urban setting.
The university offers over 100 academic courses with criminology, education, and nursing being the most famous programs being Literature and Linguistics, Foreign languages, Management, Business, Marketing, Social sciences, Education and health related programs, among many others. The institution also offers master’s degree programs, which include those within the Donald W. Scott College of Business and College of Education. Notable, one of the university’s alumni is Willa Brown Chappell, the first African-American woman who was the first US student to hold both a commercial and mechanical pilot’s license.
ISU offers skills that include the use of knowledge acquired in the classroom while outside the campus. The students get involved in school based activities as well as school events and traditions such as athletics and annual tandem bicycle races. The university uses a semester-based academic program with its 2013-14 fees ranging from $8256 and $17992 for in state-tuition and out-of-state respectively (Indiana State University par 1).

The university also aims at enhancing connections with the students and community. It intends to achieve this by increasing collaboration with other colleges, student involvement in experiential learning outside the campus, increase in activity and presence of alumni life, and increased involvement with community engagement. The university also aims at developing collaboration and interdisciplinary actions amongst the students. This is achieved through the provision of interdisciplinary classes, developing new interdisciplinary programs which emerge out of needs, team teaching opportunities, and encouraging and supporting interdisciplinary scholarships.
Another objective of the university is to increase and diversify its revenues. The institution intends to achieve this by increasing raised funds, and by increasing in the number of external grants and contracts. Finally, the university aims at improving professional satisfaction from its staff through to the students.
