According to Martin Luther King, "Taking the first step in faith is the right thing to do. The whole staircase may not be visible, but just take that first step." I have a Master’s Degree in Law, but getting a paralegal certificate is my utmost ambition, and I believe that it is a great step in a legal career. Lawyers and law firms rely heavily on the information that paralegals provide them. I choose to get a paralegal certificate because the practical skills and technical proficiency that it could provide is a big asset to my legal profession.
I have a working experience as an assistant lawyer for three years now and a volunteer in a non-profit organization since October 2015. In this kind of job, I help the poor people in the fields of family law and bankruptcy law. My ability to speak Arabic, French and English can help a lot in dealing with various clients. Likewise, having the paralegal certificate on my hand will make me more qualified to get a better job and give legal assistance to the needy in the areas of family law.
Many people would ask me why I am interested in family law and my answer is that – since nation building begins with the family as an institution, all conflicts in the family should be promptly resolved for the good of the nation. If the disputes in the family would not be resolved immediately, it could affect the country’s economy when the families go wayward without thinking of the future and the children’s future.
As a lawyer with a master’s degree and a paralegal certificate, my clients would feel comfortable in getting my services because they know that their court cases are in good hands. As I walk through the gates of courtrooms, I feel confident and look high in winning the cases entrusted to me. But it does not end there. Since I aim to make law a lifetime career, I would also be open for opportunities to pass my expertise to law students in my country aside from working in non-profit organizations and helping poor clients.
I would be glad to see myself someday as a great lawyer who works with integrity for the nation. I believe that my academic background, my passion for justice and my strong determination to succeed are good qualities that can help me reach my goals in life.
