During my high school education, my aunt was owning and managing a electronic shop. I used to assist him in managing her workers and running the daily activities in the electronic shop. However, she closed the electronic shop and started auctioning everything in the store.
After a while, my aunt offered me a job of selling the electronic equipment. She did this by giving me a 5% commission on any equipment I sold. However, she set up the minimum value I would sell any equipment, so I had to really work hard in order I could receive the commission and make extra cash from the equipments. Therefore, I would not go below the minimum price but I would sell it above the price that my aunt had set and any amount that was above the minimum price was mine in addition to the commission we had agreed with her. Therefore, I chose to be a good negotiator in order I would be able to sell the equipment at a high price compared to the one we had agreed on.
To kick the ball rolling, I would start negotiating with a customer using a higher price but a price, which was a bit lower, compared to the other store. In addition, I would inform the customer the price of the equipment in other stores so as the customer would be convinced to purchase my product because I was offering him/her a better deal. Once I mentioned my selling price, I would let the customer to make a counter price in order for me to gauge if the deal was worth. However, majority of the customers offered a little higher price that the base price we had agreed with my aunt and hence I had to negotiate with the customer in order i to sell the equipment at a higher price and hence make more profit from the product. Generally, I would drop my price a little bit while the customer would raise his/her price until we reached a compromise.
This was the point I would give the equipment to the customer with the knowledge that I had met the basic price that had been set by my aunt and earned extra profit from the equipment. This was an incentive to me and hence I worked extra hard to sell all the equipments above the minimum price that was set by my aunt.
