Re: Reasons why emojis should not be used in corporate documents
Emojis is unprofessional in that they fit informal communication than formal communication. Using Emojis gives the message the wrong message hence may lead to distortion of the information. In most cases, emojis is used in socialization to show jokes among the communicating partners. This clearly shows that their application in formal communication may interfere with the recipients’ level of understanding. In fact, I may make the recipient take the message as a joke then fail to act as per the message.
Applying them to corporate documents which are used by many stakeholders may ruin the reputation of the management. Stakeholders may take the management as not serious with its work something that may break the existing relationship. Also, it is true to note that the meaning of the emoticons differs from one region to another. Many organizations operate with stakeholders from different cultural regions thus the meaning of emoticons differ significantly from one culture to another. As a result, using them may affect the understanding of other stakeholders in different regions.
Besides, emojis destroys the structure of the corporate documents when used. Most of the corporate documents follow a given format that gives them a definite shape which makes them look professional. However, the use of emoticons can destroy the shape and structure of the corporate documents thus discouraging the users from reading the information. In fact, it can make the stakeholders see the information as a something which is not important thus neglecting to read. As a result, the company may lose some of its important stakeholders who care more about formal information which is well organized.
Furthermore, the use of emoticons in writing corporate documents may lead to disrespect between some of the stakeholders and the company management. For example, stakeholders like customers may think that the relationship existing between the company and them is informal. The customers may take the emoticons used in the documents to show friendly jokes when the company means serious business. As a result, the same may be translated in business transactions that may see customers take goods and fail to pay as per plans thinking that the company can do nothing to them. In such a circumstance, the company suffers from bad debts due to problems that it caused in its document writing (Mohrle 212).
Finally, the use of emoticons may raise concerns about the competence of the organizational employees. The users of the corporate documents may feel that the management lacks enough competence and thus why the use emoticons in their business information. Serious stakeholders may fear associating themselves with the company because they may think that one day they may fail in the hands of such employees.
Losing important stakeholders and destroying the corporate reputation of a company is detrimental to the operation of the company due to the use of emoticons in corporate documents. It is thus recommendable for anybody conveying information through corporate documents to consider professional ethics and focus on being formal in writing. This the best way of ensuring that the information contained in the documents pass the required message to the stakeholders thus enhancing proper understanding of the business progress. In so doing, the company can form a serious sense of business transactions with its stakeholders because they know that the company is ever confidence of what is doing.
In case of any question do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you!
