The work breakdown structure is an important aspect of a project management, without it, the project management becomes quite difficult. To effectively manage a project, project managers need to apply the concept of project management, in so doing, they would be able to effectively track the progress of the project activities; usually indicated in the project schedule.
Furthermore, the work breakdown structure has well defined limits, project management can be used to show how advanced the project is. To check the level at which a project has advanced to, one simply needs to check which tasks have been finished, nonetheless, one can check the level a task has advanced to by just checking the percentage of such a task, after all, tasks are measurable.
There are several key decisions a project manager can make in the course of a project, that is, before its completion. For the case of managing, planning and organizing the events of Olympics, the project manager can decide which projects to implement first, select the project team, design and plan the project, manage and control the project resources and decide whether to terminate a project, in terms of time and validity. Nonetheless, the project management board can decide the manager to monitor the project.
The Program Evaluation and Review Technique, usually abbreviated as PERT, is a tool used by statisticians to manage their projects. However, it is also widely used in project management. In project management, it is used to analyze and represent the particular tasks involved before a project can be completed. PERT was developed by the US Navy in 1950. Contrary to PERT, another great technique used in project management is the Critical Path Method, commonly referred to as CPM. The technique was also developed in 1950. Most importantly, the technique is used to analyze most crucial and logic path of a project, therefore, it identifies what is most important within a given project.

Activity crashing is a term in project management, however, at times it is referred to as project crashing. Project crashing is basically a technique that is used by project managers to shorten the project duration. A project duration is reduced by simply reducing the overall time of the project, in so, the time of Activities and tasks scheduled in the program are reduced too. This kind of a reduction is generally referred to as crashing. However, crashing can only be effective by assigning more resources to particular tasks. The problem of interviewing and training the construction personnel can be reduced by hiring already trained and established constructers.
The Program Evaluation and Review Technique has several advantages, it enables the project managers to effectively evaluate the project in terms of time and performance. Furthermore, it enables the managers to know which tasks and activities are quite urgent and which ones are less important.
There are several steps involved in risk management. First, one needs to identify the actual risk, then, analyze the risk, evaluate or rank the risk, treat the risk and finally monitor and review the risk. All the five steps should be effectively put in practice in order to effectively manage a risky situation.
