The article Leveraging OneNote at Your Company by Joseph Finney (2016) deals with the problem of managing information, data and projects by the companies which do not have specialized software that could perform such function and do not have a financial opportunity to acquire it. The author suggests a solution for such companies, and namely OneNote program offered by Microsoft free of charge. This program gives more freedom and flexibility to the project management process and makes data more visible, understandable and accessible. OneNote is very useful for teams that work together on a particular project: it gives a possibility to see the status of the project and to track its progress, to upload various types of media – documents, images, tables, audio, video, etc. (Finney, 2016). It is much more convenient to use OneNote instead of trying to save and follow progress updates in Word or Excel files which can become too complicated with time.
The content of this article is related to the topic ‘continue on project management techniques and tools’. In particular, it describes a tool that can be used free of charge for project management in the companies that cannot afford or for some other reason do not wish to purchase specialized software for this purpose. This tool will be especially useful for small companies that started to grow, to employ more people and to practice teamwork instead of just one person working on a particular project. Such companies usually do not have enough financial resources for acquisition of specialized software for project management (taking into account that such high-quality software is rather expensive), and maybe they even do not need such profound programs at their level of development; therefore, OneNote will be a perfect solution for them – it is free and it allows to share information about the status and progress of the project with other people who are working on it or for some other reason are interested in its development.
The article shows us one of the ways of solving the problem of project management for companies that do not have an opportunity to install programs that were specifically designed and developed for that purpose. The OneNote program that is recommended by the author of the article can be used free of charge, and it is not too complicated, so it will not be difficult for employees and top management to master it.
