Increasing of the physical exercises is a goal or health promotion program for healthy people 2020 mainly among older adults. There are some benefits associated with physical activities among older adults. As one age, their body becomes inactive and the change taking place in the body is inevitable. At this point, one is at risk of developing lifestyle or the chronic conditions since one is inactive. First, moderate physical exercises reduce chances of dying from heart disease, and chances of developing depression, stress as well as anxiety (Purnell, 2013). The exercises should be moderate because strenuous exercises will not help the body from achieving health benefits. The moderate exercise can be done late in the evening through walking, jogging along pavements or stair walking along the stairs.
As people age, they are lonely and accumulated with lots of thoughts thus develop stress and depression, but through regular walks, it fosters the improvement in one's mood as well as the feeling of well-being. Also, exercises like aerobics are essential for muscle strengthening mainly among males. When the muscles are strong, it helps reduce the risk of falling or getting injuries as well as improves one's ability to perform their daily duties. Through these activities, it helps one maintain healthy muscles, bones, and joints as they age. Also, physical exercises among older adult controls pain associated with arthritis and joint swelling (Bastable, 2014). Therefore, through physical activities, it will help individuals live independently and thus reduce risks of developing chronic diseases and injuries.
Also, with the physical exercise program, the older adults are encouraged to form a group with a trainer or facilitator. As a group, they can motivate and help each other in achieving the goal. The physical activities can be individualized, whereby each person has their program that best suit them. Through an individualized program, the facilitator will get a chance to monitor the progress of every individual at a time. Besides, through the program, the older adult will get an opportunity to consult with the physician on which program is best for them depending on the condition. However, some physical activities like aerobics are best while done as a group than as an individual (Purnell, 2013). Therefore, it's important for the older people to work as a team as they work toward achieving healthy benefits.
Besides, the community and people surrounding the older adults should ensure the physical activities offered by trainers are friendly to the older people. In some cases, the older people may have difficulties in reaching to physical activities' arena, therefore; they should be transported to the facilities for the physical activity programs. Another important factor that will promote physical activities among older adult is by ensuring that the locations where activities are held are safe and one can walk or run regardless of the weather. Also, the health care providers should be incorporated in the physical activity programs to provide support and assistance to older persons for desired results (Purnell, 2013). The health care providers must routinely encourage older adults to participate in the program for health benefits.
