Introduction
In past decades, human security has become a concern in many countries because of non military threats that tempers with peace and security. This is a complex issue, but it is not addressed with the seriousness it deserves. In today’s human security is threatened by factors such as genocide, war, slaved labor and environmental degradation. After the human development program was publicized, it has sensitized the importance of human security. Various meetings have been held to sensitize the importance of human security, especially to empower vulnerable populations.
Central Asia has encountered many challenges in connection to the issue of human security. The region has suffered from civil wars, poverty, human trafficking and abuse of drugs. Due to these challenges the region has lagged behind, thus, their economic growth has been very slow. UNESCO and other security agents need to intervene to curb this problem because many people in the region are suffering. There has been slow economic growth because investors fear to invest in place that do not have security. Human security can be achieved by educating and training people on the importance of peace. This can be achieved by coming up with viable projects in the region.
UNESCO has launched various publications that are aimed at promoting human security. This has been achieved through the arrangement of educational forums that will help people understand why peace is important in a country (Abazov, 7). There are three elements that have been stressed, which are strong ethical foundation that ensures human dignity is protected. In addition, elements that promote human security have been put in place to ensure that people enjoy their rights to the fullest. Lastly, people have been educated on the importance of peace since it promotes sustainable development thus expanding democracy.
This paper investigates the strategies that can be used to promote human security in central Asia. This can be achieved through ethical and normative education as the region is known to be very hostile. Countries in central Asia share common history, resources, culture and geographical closeness (Beckwith, 7). These countries were isolated from their neighbors and the international community, but know they have a chance to recover for lost time by working together. The countries should come up with projects and strategies that will promote human security. The 8 countries experience the same challenges such as human security, drug trafficking, gender disparity and immigration issues.
It is very crucial for a widespread discussion be held with the intervention of UNESCO so that strategy of promoting human security is discussed. Normative, ethical and educational approach should be used to promote human security at national and regional levels. For a long period of time, people have equated security with boarder threats and this has led nations to look for arms so as to protect their citizens. Today, people having a feeling that insecurity arises from issues like job, income, environmental security, as well as security from crime. Human security is a condition where the basic needs of a person are met, human dignity is protected and an individual has meaningful participation in the society. This type of human security cannot be divided or pursued for one group in expense for another group.
Central Asia has been having many challenges in connection to human security. This is a vital element thus UNESCO and other security agents need to intervene and ensure that human security is a priority in this region. When there is insecurity in a region, then is difficult for development to be achieved since foreign investors will fear to invest in the region. Human security is a basic need that people cannot do without since it brings many people together globally. It does not mean security from civil war, but also elements like job security, health security and environmental security. This ensures that sustainable development in a region is realized thus the growth of the economy.
Central Asia has lost many opportunities because of lack of human security in the area. Security is the backbone of any development, be it political, economic or education in a country. People live in fear because catastrophic events can occur anytime (Beckwith, 67). It is a high time for countries in central Asia work as a team so that they can promote human security. This can be achieved by coming up with viable projects that promote human security. Training people and educating them on the importance of human security is the first time. Once they understand the importance of human security, they will fight to maintain this security. UNESCO and other security agencies need to set up branches in central Asia that will promote human security in the region.
