People use drugs for different purposes. Drug abuse is the continuous use of an illegal or addictive drug (Abadinsky, 2014). The use of the drugs is due to the psychological, social and personal issues. Most of the scenarios of drug abuse are attributed to the sociological and psychological issues.
Event 1
The first event of drug addiction is the instance of doping by sports personalities. Doping has taken center stage in the sports arena with people using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) (Berkow, 2008). Currently, Russia is banned by the IAAF because of the instance of doping among the players. The players also use other stimulants such as oxandrolone and danazol. The World Anti-Doping Agency labeled the condition of Russia as excessive because it was rife in every player. The use of drugs to enhance performance is more of a social perspective. Players always want to be on top regarding performance so most of them will get to use the drugs. The use of the PEDs becomes addictive, and the players find that they cannot do without them. The drugs cause endurance and add the players strength for example steroids.
Event 2
The second event where drug abuse manifests itself is in the American schools where school-going children used to ‘pop pills.’(Eckhart, L. (2012). The pills are often in larger amounts that were not prescribed so that they get high. Even people who are not school going age use the pills. The usage at this level is mainly because of the fear of being stand-alone. Most people use the drugs due to pressure from their peers. Peer pressure plays a significant role for example in teens and high school students. Psychologically, a person will feel out of place when their friends do things that they do not do. Most people get into the menace of drug abuse due to peer pressure.
