How is the Meeting structured to facilitate the work of the Team? And Impacts of the Structure on the Team
The meeting is structured to start at a specific time; that is, at 8.00 a.m. in the morning. Some of the team members have provided with a list of data about Rosario, indicating important issues that should be discussed. This is imperative because it will act as a guideline to the meeting ("GITT Case #2 - Mr. Rosario"). Besides, each members is allocated adequate time to express relevant issues concerning the primary agenda of the meeting. The sitting arrangement, characterized by members sitting opposite one another is critical because it enhances verbal and non-verbal communication. However, it appears that there is conflict among the members concerning the important issues that should be discussed i.e. members are not able to agree on what should or not be discussed in the meeting. This is a major hindrance to effective communication among the members.
How does the Group Assign Roles, Responsibilities and Timelines for accomplishing the tasks?
Assigning roles and responsibilities to group/team members is one of the most imperative strategies that stakeholders can apply to enhance efficient communication (Van Rennesse, Kenneth, and Silvano, 78). In the case study, there is no clear strategy applied to assign roles and responsibilities; however, it is apparent that the group is characterized by existence of a structure where members are allocated time to express their views and concerns. Besides, it appears that roles are undertaken in accordance with one’s profession, while the overall data is shared among the group members.
What do you notice about the verbal and non-verbal communications among the team members?
Positive: One of the positive aspects of verbal communication in the team is that at least each member is provided with an opportunity to express his/her view. Besides, members are able to pose questions to other members for purposes of communication. There is limited use of non-verbal communication, although the fact that members ensure there is a eye contact is imperative for enhanced understanding. Negative: Members are constantly interrupted as they make attempt to raise their issues. The interruption of communication in groups is one of the factors that impacts individual confidence and morale in group discussions. Limited use of non-verbal communication in the group is also a major challenge. Non-verbal communication should be incorporated during group-oriented discussions because they enhance the understanding of issues and improve the relationship between members (Stacks, Don and Michael, 12).
How are the interests of the client and family addressed in the care planning process?
The interest of the client and his family is addressed in the meeting by engaging stakeholders with knowledge and skills in different disciplines such as social work, nurse et cetera. The engagement of individuals with various skills in group discussions is also a key strategy that ensures that adequate and effective decisions are made (Brock, et al, 415).
Identify examples of conflict in the team and how it was handled
The most important conflict that should be handled in the group is the conflict of ideas. It appears that each member has a unique perspective and understanding of issues affecting their client. However, members are constantly interrupted as they attempt to express their opinion by other members of contrary opinions. I believe that this is one of the most imperative conflicts that should be resolved to facilitate the success of the discussion.
