Audience analysis: The audience consists of my peers at school and other friends of the same age-group. They are young adults who use technology a lot.
Specific Purpose: To persuade those listening that we have become too dependent on technology

Attention-getter
Many people exhibit Chanie Kirschner’s signs of technology addiction, which include conducting all important businesses and interactions online, felling empty without technology and being dysfunctional when technology is interrupted (Krishner).
Motive for Listening
Many people, especially the young, have become so engrossed in technology that it is starting to interfere with normal life and interfering with social interactions.
Credibility Statement
Being in this tech-addicted generation, I understand firsthand the extent to which we use technology, and from research, I have documented the effects that this addiction has on users.
Purpose or Thesis Statement
While technology creates great opportunities for us, many people feel they can no longer function without a smart phone by their sides at all times or being on their computer. Many times it affects our relationships not only with each other, but also with God.
Preview Statement
In this argument, I will give the rationale for addiction to technology, signs of addiction to technology, and how it affects our relationship with each other, and with God.
Transition: Let’s look at this further.
Body:
Main Point 1. People can be addicted to technology
According to SiOWfa15, the impulse that people experience that drives them to want to check on their phone constantly, even when it’s not ringing, is controlled by same brains cells and chemical reactions that control addiction to drugs.
Transition: This leads to the question, what are the signs that someone is addicted to technology?
Main Point 2. There are several signs of addiction to technology
Inability to function without technology
When there is a breakdown, work stops.
A desire to conduct all interactions via technology.
It interferes with social interactions
No desire to go social places and do things outside of technology
Transition: This brings us to the main point of this discussion.
Main Point 3. Technology interferes with lives and relationship with God.
The Wall Street Journal published an article indicating a decline in religious affiliation due to technology
Transition: This brings me to my conclusion

Summary
Technology has preoccupied people’s lives and replacing normal religious engagement.
