Goal Achievement
Goals reached
At the beginning of the semester, I set some goals and these entailed both professional and developmental goals. First, I wanted to apply for a part-time job during the summer and at the moment I have already done that, and I have gone to couple career fair and given them my CV. Additionally, I have been able to gather sufficient more information as well as needed books that have enabled me to prepare for my CFA exams. To regard myself as well prepared for the CFA exams, I have been reading a single book every month, and I believe this will go a long way in improving my GPA for this course.
Secondly, I set one of my goals as working as a volunteer in a non-profit making organization. In the course of reaching this aim, I’ve been working with the Thornwell Orphanage as a conversational teacher to the young children and at some times assisted in the day care roles for the children involving tidying up the place and teaching the kindergarten classes.
Thirdly, I have applied for an online business negotiation course with the Coursera. This is in a bid to help me attain the goal of improving my negotiation skills. I’m already through with the first module of the course and acquired my first certificate of completion.
Fourthly, I have learned how to read the Quran by engaging the Sheiks as well as attending Madrasa regularly where Islamic religion is being taught. Concerning the attainment of the goal of getting another child, I’m eight months expectant and in a few weeks, I’ll have another child. I’ve explored economic policy journals in a bid to learn how I can be beneficial to modern economics. I chose to read the journals that examined how policies on the economy have been used to resolve real world problems. Finally, I’ve helped my husband to enroll for his master's degree in Business Administration, through assisting him to select the best discipline to learn in business.
Challenges faced in attaining the set goals
The road has not been smooth for me as I’ve had to handle some hurdle in the course of accomplishing the above goals. First, sourcing finances to enable me to purchase the required books has not been an easy task. In this regard, I’ve been forced to source out extra pennies from my husband and close friends just to get the additional money required for the purchase of the books. Coordinating how I handle my academics and balancing it with the daycare activities has not been as easy as I mention it. Sometimes, the shifts allocated in the daycare and for the voluntary kindergarten classes collided with my course work such as lessons and exams. In this regard, I was at times forced to pay another person to perform the day care services on my behalf as I handle my academics. As for the kindergarten classes, I could not dedicate such a role and therefore had to look for additional time, maybe over the weekend and handle the missed classes.
Role of the new growth professionally and in future
Working as a day care assistant and kindergarten trainer has been so helpful to me. First, I’ve learned how to handle young children and how to deal with people from diverse professions. Secondly, it gives me a chance to grow my public relations skills. These will be so vital in the course of my future work. Time management has had to be taught to me in a hard way, as handling the time hurdles has helped me to know how to manage multiple tasks without allocating more time to one than should be. Additionally, my interaction with the staff and the management of the Thornwell Orphanage has helped me know how child orphanages are managed out as well as the challenges they encounter and in the case in the future, I happen to develop the interest in the same; I will surely be able to operate efficiently one.
Myers-Briggs characteristics have helped me in the following ways. From know your type; I’ve learned to reduce my defensiveness when involved in a disagreement with my colleagues in the various respects (Myers, 1998). Additionally, these characteristics have helped me to see others more accurately as well as allowed me to enhance and appreciate differences in myself and others.
