Essay
Introduction
Health care policy deserves thorough examination in terms of its implementation and practice discourse. In order to find the ways to avoid disastrous health outcomes for all the people, one should speak of proper delivery of health services, which is possible in case the system approach is applied. If to consider leadership from the point of view of the system approach, leadership in healthcare should be analyzed in its connection with the providing of the best possible nursing practices, continuous improvement of applied techniques and policies, which should serve to ensure the safety of patients’ health. It also should serve to promote changes in advanced nursing practice. Now it becomes possible to transfer to DNP all the necessary data and knowledge collected, analyzed and distributed by central governments (Machildom, 2014). In this regard, Health Policy course can be seen as a repository of knowledge how to achieve specific health care goals. The purpose of the reflection is to review the understanding of the role of the leadership in the development and implementation of health policy at various levels (for example, at such levels as institutional, local, state, federal, and other ones).
Health care policy and Leadership
Health care policy is a set of particular values and ideology, which is aimed to cover the physical needs of people. Implementation of health policy is not an easy question to be solved by professionals. It is vital for Health Policy course to realize that healthcare management is highly complex because it is connected with various groups of people possessing diverse professional and occupational experience and knowledge (Hyde et al., 2014).
Responsibility for DNP actions and their consequences is essential for daily nursing practice. In order to demonstrate acquired skills, knowledge, and integrative abilities to meet the pertinent DNP competencies, there is a clear understanding that DNP nursing leader are always considered to acquire the ability to identify healthcare systems issues from the professional point of view. Health Policy course teaches that the most effective leaders in healthcare system are known to respond to the healthcare field issues with the help of their leading skills applied’ (Alloubani, 2014).
There is the understanding of major points and concepts related to the issue of competency of healthcare leaders. When addressing real life cases, I can see how important are the study results in terms of benefits and challenges of the profession. According to Budak & Kar (2014) extreme workload in healthcare, high level of competition, problems with finding and hiring professional staff are among the most hard and controversial issues that management in health sector face (Budak & Kar, 2014).
Here Qabaha states that leaders are responsible to deliver proper health care service in every healthcare organization (for example, in hospitals) (Qabaha, 2016). It is also of high importance to realize what is meant when we speak about care. Besides, no matter whether we speak of healthcare at institutional, local, state or federal levels, healthcare leaders also turn out to be the experts who ensure the usage of necessary tools, resources and other equipment in order to ensure high quality healthcare service.
In order to determine the feasibility of this approach for the future career of the healthcare leader, it is important to understand that management and leadership education are closely connected (Cocowitch et al., 2013: 11).
According to American Association of Colleges of Nursing, leadership should aim to promote patient care of high quality (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2011, p.11). Moreover, healthcare organizations, institutions and other authorities at all mentioned levels carry huge responsibility connected with the provision of uninterrupted essential healthcare services to the public no matter what the circumstances are (Steiner, 2014).
Conclusion
Health Policy demonstrates all the challenges that can be faced by DNP nursing leaders. Therefore, DNP nursing leaders are able to solve various healthcare issues and can do it in accordance with policies and rules. DNP essentials presuppose continuous self-assessment and self-development to assure health care policy optimization and implementation. DNP programs have proven to be highly effective for the reason that they offer a variety of elective courses, testing, evaluation, etc. Moreover, I need to mention that the importance of Doctors of Nursing Practice as faculty members continuously grows. To sum it all up, the education provided serves to let DNP leaders successfully solve the healthcare system problems and plan the nursing practices respectively.
