In the current world, music has become an important issue for people. Individuals use music for various reasons such as leisure, concerts for making money, and career. A career in music can involve being an artist, producer, djing, and directors. Each of the listed roles has different requirements and tasks that an individual will perform. At times, and individual may have more than one careers in music such as being a songwriter, producer, and artist.
Germany is one of the countries where people practice music as a career. I was born and raised in Germany with a Turkish origin. In my young days, I attended many music concerts and events. Some of the major events I attended are the annual music festivals, with Rock am Ring and Wacken Open Air concert being the most significant around German and world in a general. Germany is one of the countries that is known for music producers, performers, and composers in the world, and hosts the largest music market in the Europe region and is ranked the third largest in the world. As I was growing up, I experienced the German classical, which is one of the music genres that is performed in the world, and this motivated me into the music industry. Some of my role models who have accomplished much in the industry are Franz Schibert and Johannes Brahms. Since the year 1990, I have experienced and seen major music events in Germany, and Berlin has developed and mentored diverse music and entertainment industry (Gruhn 311-321).
Before joining my university studies, I used to attend various djing events in a club where my friend was working. The motivation that I gained during the events has kept my ego for the career alive. While in the club, my friend could mainly play Tecno, and at times, he would give me a chance to control the music. Later on, I joined the University of Miami and took a course in political science, and away from that I am a Music Business Minor. The reason for doing the political science major is to gain a better insight of the political setup around the world, and my parents could not let me to purely major in the music industry since they argued that it was not a stable career and wanted me to do it as a part-time course and job. My love for music djing and production influenced me to take a part-time course in Music Business, and I give it more focus because I believe it is my passion. While doing the course, I have got a chance to visit a major production house that has hosted legend producers such as Wolfgang Mozart. During the visit, I gained major knowledge in the production of music and how to coordinate the events in the studios. The manager of the production house was happy with my skills and promised that if I improve, I was to get a chance in the company once I am through with my studies.
Short Term Career Goals
As a student, you need some part time jobs to cater for the maintenance costs and avoid straining the parents. My plan is to utilize the music skills I have gained in my djing and music production and earned some money. Miami is known for the many popular music concerts, and there are chances for DJs getting jobs. As I continue with my music business classes, I have developed an online production line to tap the possibilities of getting contracts to produce for the upcoming artists. For the online production of music I have established a website that I use to recruit new clients, after we have successful negotiations, and the charges are determined, I refer them to my friends who are producers because at the moment I do not have any premises. In my website, music lovers can interact and share ideas to help in the music production and djing, which helps gain extra knowledge to use at the moment and in future to create a difference in the industry.
Before joining the university, I had bought a music kit that I always carry with me, and I have engaged in many live djing events in the institution. My colleague students refer to me as Dj, and this has helped popularize my career, and I was given the contract to be the standing Dj in any case that the invited one fails to attend the university events. In my role, I get to interact with celebrity DJs and artists. In the interactions, I have got the knowledge to help me better my career and get chances to attend small events around Miami.
Another major short-term career goal is to combine the djing and music production and set up Twitter and Facebook account to liaise with the others in the industry and gain experience on how the field operates. The site will have open discussions and sharing of ideas, but no essential music production will be done. However, people who want their music produced, they can use the site to link up with the producers of their choice, which will make the site gain more popularity (Rihova 283-284).
I can never forget my academic life since I want to make my parents and family in general happy. I have joined many political analysts groups to interact with other people in the area and gain knowledge and links in the field so that immediately I am through with my education I will have some connections in the job market.
Long Term Career Goals
In the long run, I want to practice both the music and political science career since I believe they are compatible because I can be on the political side full time, and yet engage in the music industry as a part time.
In the music industry, I intend to learn from the legends that have existed and then work out a formula to better their achievements. I already have a djing kit, but I believe it will not be sufficient for the job because I want to open an academy and launch a product line. The small kit I have will be moved to the academy to be used by the students for practices. I will have to lease a premise to set the academy, and it will also act as the storage location for the other kits. I intend to have the capacity to attend multiple events and concerts in a day; hence, this will mean having more than two djing kits and employing more DJs. My role in the company will be to mentor the employees and motivate them to work. Using the social sites, I will have created; I will network with other people in the industry and outsource for jobs for my team with much ease.
On the music production side, I will have to set a physical premise that will host various production lines and machines. Using the website I will have already established, getting clients will not be a major issue. In my short term goals, I will have set a site to source for production customers and direct them to my friends who are producers. The only change that will be experienced is that I will not be giving external producers the jobs, but now I will have to do the production at my company. I intend to use my production company as a way to grow the young talents in the industry by giving them a chance to access the studios, unlike in the current world where only the celebrity artists get the priority.
I will combine my djing and production careers and come up with a music label to market music and artists in the country and back at home in Germany. The label will help in nurturing new talents in the music industry and give the existing artists a chance to show what they got.
In the long run, I cannot forget my political science career. Using the political analyst groups, I will have joined; I will get connections to the political world, and I intend to land a job with one of the major analysts’ team in Miami or Germany. However, in the current environment, getting jobs have become a hard task, and I do not expect this to change as the job competition will have increased. Getting a job may prove to be a difficult task; hence, I will have to setup my company. I will seek for loans from the commercial banks back in Germany and set up a political analyst consultant farm that I will use to discuss the political issues affecting the nation and the world in general. Starting the company will give me a career satisfaction of avoiding employment and being self-employed, which has been my primary career goal.
With the combination of music production and djing industry and a political analysis firm, I will be able to achieve my dreams of being self-employed and engage in the community empowerment by employing the youths and helping artists reach their career levels. One of my greatest career and life goals is ensuring I give back to my community that has instilled in me the love for music. I will ensure the music industry remains stable assist the people who take music as a career to grow.
Use of Knowledge in Music Business and Entrepreneurship in Career Achievements
I have had experience in the music industry from my stay in my homeland until in the current world where I am doing a business course and small scale djing and production. The experience I have gained in the duration will be crucial because I will know how to balance between the business operations and ensuring customer satisfaction. To gain more clients and maintain the existing ones, there is the need to have effective relations by keeping the staffs motivated so that they can serve the customers and artists well and efficiently. The excellent management skills I have gained in running the small events and activities I have had will be essential in ensuring that my music career is well managed and ends up being successful.
It is essential to respect the career of an individual and avoid judging them because there is no right or wrong venture to take; all that matters is the efforts a person puts in achieving the goals. A music career can be challenging at the start when trying to win the faith of new artists since most of them prefer going for the companies that are already established. Once the enterprise is fully set, I will have to utilize my management skills and the experience I have gained growing in a music-oriented country and come up with a good career. Once the firm is fully established, I will have to ensure my employees are well taken care of and are motivated so that they can perform their duties flawlessly. The reason for choosing the music industry is because it can accommodate my political science career since music may be done as a part-time job as long there are sufficient mechanisms to ensure a smooth running of activities.
