Part 1
Personal and professional accountability
This is an essential skill a nurse manager ought to have in order to govern properly and ensure the subordinate staff act accordingly. Regarding my personal and professional accountability, I consider myself a profession in as far as my practice is concerned. I have got the desire to advance my education to achieve my self-actualization goals. I believe in self-fulfillment as a way of achieving my personal and professional accountability which is also in line with my career planning objective. The moral position that defines my personality is the utilitarianism since I have got the belief that the actions that care providers do must always be directed towards the merit of the masses. Such a realization has been important in my quest for achieving professional ethics and principles (Hayry, 2013). My mantra is that my patients must be totally satisfied with the care that I provide to them. Additionally, I have been able to receive all the required certification, accreditation, and licensure which are necessary for my practice. This documentation has enabled me to practice within the scope of the law and the stipulated regulations. Additionally, being a member of professional nursing bodies, I receive periodical publications which assist me to understand the key issues that will affect my practice. I am also certified as a member of the Red Cross Society with knowledge in disaster management.
Career planning
On matters concerning my career pathway, my strengths lie in the fact that I have had several years of experience serving within the Baccalaureate scope. From my earlier years of practice, I have amassed valuable information regarding patient care which has been beneficial to me even in situations that proved a little bit technical. Being a member of the American Nurses Association, I hope to benefit from the episodic seminars that we attend at our workplace concerning the changes that are happening in the field of nursing (ANA, 2016). My primary objective regarding career advancement is to become the CEO in future and as such, I have got plans for advancing my education to earn an MSN degree. Concerning developing a career path, I believe that I am better placed to adjust to future scenarios at the workplace since I can easily adapt to circumstances. Such a realization has improved my capacity to fit in any future challenges (AACN, 2006). As such, I will be able to address any administrative and job challenges that I may be faced with in my professional journey.
Personal journey disciplines
I believe in sharing responsibilities. From this belief, I have been on the forefront in making sure that the new nurses especially graduates that join our workforce are given the appropriate orientation regarding the roles that are supposed to play. Such a realization has always led to improved outcomes on their side. Additionally, by actively sharing the duties at our healthcare setting, it has assisted in boosting the spirit of interdisciplinary teams and which in most cases has been resulting in desirable patient outcomes. I have always welcomed staff members to bring on board suggestions on what they think we can do to improve our services to the clientele. The skills that I have acquired from these efforts have been instrumental in tackling any managerial challenges. On matters regarding the learning process, I believe in action learning since by taking actions during learning, it becomes easier to identify the specific requirements that particular actions need which results in boosted levels of problem-solving (AACN, 2006). My weakness is impatient in the event deadlines are not met within the stipulated timelines. As such, I am doing my best to improve my coping skills.
Reflective practice references behaviors/tenets
I believe in holding high moral and ethical standards which are usually reflected in my interaction with fellow staff members. Integrity is an important factor that a leader needs to pride in every time they interact with clientele and the staff. Additionally, being a versatile individual, I can learn about different issues affecting the nursing profession regardless of the environment that I may be in. Additionally, I believe in providing care that takes into account the individual needs of my patients including their ethnic, cultural and moral backgrounds. As such, the cultural competency that I have developed is essential in avoiding negative judgments concerning my patients (Bernales et al., 2015). Furthermore, by being inquisitive and adventurous, I am better placed in figuring out the potential in fellow staff members which is a crucial step in coming up with different clinical techniques. Finally, on matters regarding my emotional and intellectual self, I am constantly looking for new learning materials which are essential for my development in these two areas. Such efforts boost my commitment levels to my job.
Part 2
Advocacy
Since I am a culturally-competent nurse manager, the leadership skills that I have developed over the years have been helpful to me in fighting for the rights of my colleagues. Additionally, since utilitarianism forms the basis of my ethical stand, I am always on the forefront in making sure that my colleagues receive the best regarding their well being. As such, in line with advocating for change at my workplace, I have been in the forefront in advocating for a review of matters that concern fellow nurses. Additionally, I usually lobby for variations in the standard operating practices to satisfactorily address my staff’s ethical, moral and professional requirements. Championing for my colleagues’ rights is an effective method of taking care of their desires.
Leadership growth goal
My personal goal as far as my leadership growth is concerned to become a CEO in future. As such, in line with making sure that I achieve this dream, I will take short managerial courses alongside my main MSN degree that I intend to pursue in the future. Additionally, I usually stand in for our CEO when she is held up on crucial matters affecting our healthcare organization. These strategies have been helpful to me in honing my leadership skills.
