Nowadays, many students have to work to cover for the college fees, which makes non-traditional student online class beneficiary for it gives the students a chance to learn in their own time. Online class provide flexibility in terms of schedule. For instance, if a person works during day time, s/he will not be able to attend regular classes in school. However, if colleges offer online classes, students could get a chance to study at night after working. Even at work, students can also to study or do homework during break time, or whenever they are free. For example, I work as a security in a company, and I can just sit and read or do my homework even during work time. It is always my priority to look for online classes because I don’t have to worry about fixing my work schedule to align it with my class schedule. Providing online course helps not only non-traditional students, but traditional students, as well. Regular students can take as much class as they can because it has flexible hours. Sometimes, the lecture hours for the classes that you need to take in a semester overlaps. Instead of waiting for the next semester, students have a chance to take it online when they get the opportunity. Thus, when colleges provide online classes, it is constructive to both traditional and non-traditional students for their success.
When it comes to student service, counseling is the main important thing for the students to achieve their goals. It helps direct students to follow the right path towards their academic dreams by providing academic planning and course selection, advice and plans when faced with academic difficulties, and reference to colleges or universities during transfer. It also helps to finish your required class the smart way. If colleges do not provide counseling, then students will lose guidance, and waste money and time. In my experience, I made a big mistake by not going to counseling in my first-year college. So I ended up taking classes that I didn’t need. If a counselor conferred with me, I wouldn’t have spent time and energy taking that class. To help and guide their students, colleges should provide counseling services to their students for them to make the right choices in their academic progress and eventually succeed.
Finally, I believe that students should have the option to study and use library resources in their own time. Students have different convenient time to study or do homeworks. Some students prefer to study at night while others are more comfortable studying at day time. Therefore, the lack of twenty-four hours library access will impact students’ progress by limiting their access to library resources. Students will have to look for alternative places like coffee shops or other public places that close late where they can study. For example, I have classes in the morning and work in the afternoon. Between classes and work, it is hard to study and do homeworks. As a result, just so I can study, I need to go to a coffee shop which closes late. Some coffee shops are open until 1:00 am, however, there are times when I don’t get enough time to study or finish my homework. Also, it is evident that there are no resources that I can use as a reference in coffee shops. There are also times when they close before I get done with my homework. If my college library is open 24 hours, I would have enough time to study, and it would be a big help for my success. Students can come and use the resources at any time, and it will help students finish their work early and get more time to study. Consequently, students’ success is valuable to the student and the community. Therefore, to guarantee the students’ success, colleges should offer a 24-hour access to the library.
