Sexual harassment is rampant in working environments. Companies ought to take strict actions against workplace sexual harassments through an implementation of anti-harassment procedures and policies useful for raising complaints. Sexual harassments in the working environment have continually been reported and dealt with in courts. Workplace sexual harassment not only attracts lawsuits and the offenders’ punishment but also lead to a bad reputation of companies and consequently causing losses because an ethical code's violation. The impacts of sexual harassment range from self-esteem and psychological traumas to compensations paid by a firm. As a human resource manager, if an employee approached me with an issue regarding a male employee’s constant sexual harassment by asking her out, even after she said no, I would use various strategies in handling the case. My first action will be investigating the matter and gathering evidence supporting the victim’s claims before taking any action.
Upon establishing the truth about the issue, it would be clear to me that my employees’ working environment has been compromised through abuse. I will seek to change the workplace environment through reprimanding and warning the harasser. The harasser’s actions would then be monitored to find out if he has changed. If the male employees persist in sexually harassing his colleague, I would then consider taking a lawsuit against him so as to face the law and get his punishment, and eventually fire him.
The case will be an eye opener to me.I will then investigate any sexual harassment hints in the organization instead of waiting for complaints from employees. I would also circulate memos that act as constant reminders on the harsh policies and strict measures prohibiting any form of sexual harassments. Sexual harassment is illegal; organizations are obliged to control it so as to ensure a healthy working environment.
