I am submitting my application to enter the Master in Criminology and Criminal Justice program to achieve an advanced understanding by learning how the criminal justice process operates. My interests lie in discovering how human behaviour can affect the application of law and how different strategies can be implemented when dealing with preventative techniques and the resolution they are meant to produce. I am very passionate about the study of Criminology as it has thus far challenged my extensive researching skills and enabled me to hone my critical thinking abilities. This field has also taught me the value of studying independently so as to gain a more comprehensive understanding of motive and the reasoning behind the commission of a crime.
During my studies I have taken note of the psychological, biological, and even sociological theories that contribute to the reasons behind why individuals commit criminal acts. By seeking to understand and observe the behaviour of individuals and the reasoning behind their actions I have gained a great deal of understanding when it comes to motive and how it becomes justified in the mind of the perpetrator.
In this manner, my time spent as an undergraduate has better prepared me to achieve my
goal of acquiring in-depth knowledge in terms of extensive research and analysis. My studies
have included the constant and continual review of the complexities of criminal acts such as
organized crime, terrorism, and many other such offenses. I have also studied delved how
the criminal justice system handles different types of crimes depending on their severity as well as other factors that pertain to the given situation. To give an example, my dissertation was largely focused upon the discipline of criminal profiling and how it can identify behaviour and personality traits that allow the profiler to efficiently link any pertinent theories to the offender.
I have attached my CV for your perusal, and have included that I did in fact join the Criminology Society during my first and second year as an undergraduate. This allowed me to interact with other students that shared my field of interest and furthered my studies in this field. I was also elected as Secretary of this same society by my second year. I have also earned the distinction of being requested as a professor’s assistant for the Criminal Justice System first year module. My role will be to support and mentor those students that are entering their first year in Criminology and to provide assistance with assignments and any other concerns. At this current time I am also a Criminology Student Panellist working with the Oxford University Press.
In the long-term my goal is attain the position of a high level criminal investigator and to work with major criminal agencies throughout the UK. It is my belief that Oxford University could help me to achieve this goal. I would be greatly honoured to become a part of this university and to one day earn a Master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you sincerely for your consideration of my application.
