Firestone to Voluntary Recall 4.25 million RADIAL Tires.
Firestone, Inc. announces voluntary recall of its Radial tires MTZ and MTY III tires. These were produced in their South Australian and Asian plants. The recall includes replacement of tires of that size.
The company estimates that 6.25 million tires would be replaced in this exercise.
"At Bridgestone/Firestone, we take customer satisfaction very seriously,” said Maxworth, the Chief Executive Officer of the company. "This extraordinary step is a precaution against even the slightest probability of risk. We value consumer safety and our products must meet every contingency and standards. We are going to replace however old any tire is; or any amount of mileage."
Firestone is deeply concerned about the recent spate of accidents in the middle –east especially Dubai, Bahrain, Doha, and Kuwait. These are desert regions and given to extreme temperatures – there seems to be a direct correlation between heat and tire performance. Firestone deeply regrets the tragic loss of lives and the terrible agony suffered by the families. For a company that is almost a hundred years old, this is the worst tragedy. This agony is shared by every one of our employees and channel partners.
For the customers with Firestone P235/75R15 size tires the procedures are as follows:
- Customers with these sub-brands of tire would be notified by an email for a recall where the tires would be replaced by new ones. Customers can also avail toll-free number at 1-912-234-7689.
- Customers can visit their nearest Firestone retailer for an appointment. Since majority of these accidents have taken place in countries with extreme hot temperatures, the company is embarking on the recall in Dubai, Bahrain, Doha, and Kuwait on a priority basis.
Firestone affirms its continuing and abiding policy of commitment to customer safety. We urge all Firestone tire owners to contact their nearest dealer or Ford showroom or any service center for a free inspection.
Maxworth reassured customers on the company commitment to consumer safety. "We extend our condolences to families that have lost loved ones in accidents. We also apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this recall causes and we ask for their patience," he said. “We are truly sorry.”
