Introduction
Each aspect of making a decision regardless of how small or big the impact of a decision would be follows a process in order to arrive from one end of the decision to another. In terms of purchasing new computers, there are certain factors for consideration before making a decision. However, understanding the way decision-making process works would enable anyone to make a better choice. The discussion will demonstrate the process of decision-making in purchasing multiple computers. In order to arrive to such decision, several process models will be examined including assessment of the steps, the people involve in each step, and how the people’s involvement contribute towards a quality decision.
Decision-Making Summary
The summary encompasses identifying the methods in decision-making and the various models of the decision process. In the process of choosing the best approach in making a decision to buy computers, employing the appropriate method and process is crucial in ascertaining the positive outcome of the decision and reducing any potential risk.
Decision-making methods
Adopted from (Frey and Biagi, 1998)
Assuming there is a consensus employed as a decision-making method, the process will demonstrate the individual involvement and contribution of each step in arriving to the decision.
7-Step Decision-Making Model
Recommendation
Given the consideration to factors such as, methods, and models in decision-making, the next phase of the decision is to apply the considerations, the method, and the model in the actual decision-making process (Ahmed et al., 2014). Based on the outcome of examining the decision-making, in the process, of purchasing computers, first consideration is assessing the budget versus the requirement. This involves determining how many computers units are needed. The next step is identifying the financial limitations in the decision aspect, which boils down to whether to get desktops that lower priced as compared to laptops that more expensive, but more convenient to use. Here the next consideration was based on the tradeoff between the costs versus the benefits of each choice. Operating system encompasses the same notion of choosing between cost and benefit because one operating system would not be as diversely adaptable to certain operational purposes. It is important to consider the general purpose of the computers being purchased whether for work, recreation, home, or for more specific function. At this point, the determination of purpose will enable a decision to choose between Windows, OSX, Ubuntu, Linux, and among others. Lastly, purchasing a computer necessitates consideration of the basic components. If the purpose or intended function requires a specific component such as more advanced Graphic Card, Bigger HDD capacity, higher RAM, greater processing power, or combination of one to many.
