Recruiters use several methods to garner potential college workers. While some popular approaches are expensive and ineffective, other creative methods are, simple and low cost while extraordinarily effective. As a Target Management’s Program Officer, I am writing this memo to propose two recruiting models that will help the company save money and make fun- filled presentation while recruiting for workers at California State University- Fullerton.
Business Problem
Even in the age of prompt and efficient technology and increased role of virtual communication, face-to face recruiting methods, especially for fresh college prospective workers, is still the most effective way of finding good workers. However, at Target, we are concerned by the increasing cost and infectivity of the traditional model of recruiting at colleges. The traditional model entailed meeting prospective student workers on campus, and having an interactive session with them on a secluded room. While this method was effective for a long time, it was not comprehensive. The method locks out a big segment of the student population who would have been interested in finding out how we run Target.
Proposals
1. Target Training Program was proposing that the company uses interns from CSUF as campus representatives. Asking interns to recruit in the college that they attended would not only act as a motivational factor for many students but also generate a buzz of excitement in the campus community. The interns could be peer role models. They could be short video clips showing the students working at Target. The advantage of this method is that it is cheap and affordable and enables Target to reach a wider group of students. It is effective since the students are already aware of the environment. The con for this method is that it could turn out to be a get together party instead of a business recruiting session.
2. Another method could be using the creative model that employs the use of skits and plays that demonstrate regular activities at Target. Prospective students could be told to dress a certain way and to perform tasks that could be used in the office. The advantage of this method is that it gives the students a real feel of the work environment. Moreover, if the skits are funny, attendance could increase and thus more prospective workers.
Recommendation
I recommend that we employ the combination of the two strategies for effective creative output. Having former CSUF students’ acts skits at school will make the whole recruiting exercise fun and likeable for many students.
