Team Leader’s Summary:
The first accomplishment that the team made was electing a leader and finding a facilitator (Shaw, et al 424). Coming up with a vision statement was also a huge step in the right direction (Shaw, et al 424). Moreover, the team also discovered that it had to collect ample data in order to make decisions and also come up with any recommendations. The development of appropriate data collection activities was the other accomplishment since it meant that the collected data would be fitting (Shaw, et al 424). Additionally, the collection method was also quite extensive and covered all the important aspects.
Consequently, the team was able to get data about the number of admitted, discharged, and transferred patients (Shaw, et al 424); the procedures applied by users for each of these activities, and the number of transfers, admissions, and discharges performed by each user (Shaw, et al 424). The observational studies also gave the team first-hand data on patient transfer procedures, the time spent during transfers and how long it took to enter transfer information into the system, which made it easy to spot errors commonly made, and their effect on census and other departments (Shaw, et al 424).
Member of the Quality Council Assessment:
The approach taken by the team was quite impressive. Electing a leader (Shaw, et al 424) and coming up with a vision clearly gave the team good direction. The extensive data collection strategies for both recorded and observable data were also quite genius (Shaw, et al 424). Moreover, it is clear that every member of the team understood what was expected of them, and therefore they all worked together towards a common goal. Besides, the time period for the data collection was also enough for enough data to be gathered (Shaw, et al 424). The data collected covers all the important aspects of patient relations within the institution (Shaw, et al 424), and it can be used in decision-making, as well as coming up with recommendations. In general, the team did a really remarkable job.
Recommendations:
In future, the team should make sure that all its members have the right training to ensure that data collection and analysis is flawless. The team could also extend its research to other sections of the institution.
