Safety is a one of the essential elements that stand out in the definition of quality health care by the IOM.Quality health care must also be patient centered, equitable, efficient, timely and effective. Health care providers strive to meet these essential elements in providing health care services as well as in the management practices. In nursing practice, the elements of quality health care can easily be applied in nursing since the IOM report framework focuses on nurses and other staff in the health care sector. There are cases injuries that occur during the course of medical health care, these injuries can be avoided if nurses and health care providers are trained on safety during health care delivery. Effective health care can be achieved through application of medical knowledge in health care delivery. Effective health care in nursing can be achieved through promotion of continuous learning in health care delivery. Focus should be based on patients and nurses, patient based health care system that promotes patient to nurse relationship is critical towards delivery of quality health care. Nursing should be based on equitable health care whereby patients are not served based on their demographics or economic status. Workflow in nursing should be smooth and time efficient; this can be achieved through developing a balanced work mechanism where every person knows his or her role.
In the work, setting the framework can be implemented through offering training to nurses and other health care providers. Increasing the number of health care providers improves health care delivery by ensuring that patients receive services in a timely and efficient manner. Integrating technology in health care systems provides a smooth and quality health care system in the work setting. The report framework is applicable in all health care systems and health care providers need to implement it in promoting quality health care.
