Quality assessment and improvement
Many activities within the nursing profession require that care is a priority in order to provide a quality and correct medication. In such scenarios, the health professionals need to adhere to set out procedures as they are in the provision of the medication to patients. Process maps are essential in guiding the health professionals to treat patients accordingly without necessarily seeking any other outside assistance of an outside expert. Process maps are well-designed charts or rather directions that assist in outlining the right procedure in executing any given plan. Therefore, this ability of the process maps to direct the professionals makes it necessary and reliable to use.
A process map can be of importance in diagnosing problems in the health sector as well as in informing strategies improvement. The manners in which this process map is utilized vary from one sector or branch of nursing to the other. In general, the process map indicates clearly the correct procedure for treating let us say an ailment (Maybin, Charles, &Honeyman, 2016). It begins by outlining the detection stage of the disease right from describing the correct steps to test the presence of the pathogens to the outcome to expect in case of their presence.
In so doing it will put forward clarity of the test direction and the exact measurements of samples of saying blood or stool. After which the very minute steps that will lead to the success of the entire project will follow (Maybin, Charles, &Honeyman, 2016). Process maps, however, are very easy to use since they do not incorporate many confusing activities but rather give brief descriptions of the core steps.
A process map could also assist in informing strategies for quality improvement in that they highlight the key steps necessary to provide quality medication. Consider for example a scenario whereby provision of medication to treat and remedy an illness for example malaria. The quality of the service will partially depend on the reliability of the process map (Thaker, & Feeley, 2016). This is because the process map will clearly outline the key elements that must present for the treatment to be a success (Potter, Perry, Stockert, & Hall, 2016). This key elements and directives given on the process map will drastically boost the efficiency of the health profession. The main reason for the efficiency improvement is that the nurse will depend upon the map to carry out all the activities keenly and attentively.
The process map as well will boost the data collection efforts in a number of ways because it offers a guideline on the actual quantity of samples. For instance, if a nurse wishes to collect data on the number of people suffering from chronic diseases it will be necessary to refer to the process map for assistance (Potter, Perry, Stockert, & Hall, 2016). The data collection exercise incorporates the use of strategies aims at securing information from relevant people. The strategies that are mostly utilized are interviews and filling questionnaires in which case it will be necessary to seek the assistance of a process map to help in the provision of the guidelines on the suitable interviewees.
The process map will direct an individual to be able to identify the correct people who will assist in filling the questionnaires as well as the ones that will suitably answer interview questions. The process map will also guide in the collection of the correct amount of sample in that it reflect back on the previous experimentation on a similar activity (Thaker, &Feeley, 2016). The construction of the actual process map is based on a previously done experiment, therefore, it will be difficult or it to fail. Relying on the process map for data collection will boost the efficiency of collecting such data.
Considering the discussion above it is clear that process maps to assist in improving the quality of services and in addition the data collection effort. The process map is essential in the improvement of strategies involving nursing services to the patients across all sectors of the nursing profession.
