Providing quality healthcare services has always been deemed as one of the most integral need of society. Without a doubt, it impacts humanity’s survival in terms of contributing to the field of health. On the same note, the profession of nursing provides people to practice their services and expertise to the people who requires them the most. I am keen in pursuing nursing because it caters to my desire to serve and help other people. In addition, to this the profession will also allow me to hone my skills because of its diverse offering of programs to select. As an individual, I have always dreamed of myself giving medical support to renowned doctors and building my own reputation in the industry. In this light, it with sincere enthusiasm that I wish to enter your institution’s nursing program. I believe in what your program offers and because it is considered as one of the top nursing programs.
I would define myself as someone disciplined, hardworking and honest. I honed these traits due to my familiarity with Allied Health. Just this 2014, I graduated from HCC with a degree in Allied Health. Because of my background and foundation in health, I believe that I have leverage in terms of familiarization in health practices and methods. Aside from the traits I mentioned, I am also a people-person and warm. For someone who is keen in pursuing a profession under customer care and service, I believe that this characteristic is important. I can easily build rapport with my patients and provide them with a source of hope and positive energy.
What motivates me to pursue to this career is rooted from my volunteering experiences. When I volunteer in health clinics and encounter different patients, I can not help but realize that my knowledge at my current state is not as sufficient to give them aid. I felt that I can do more if my continued to learn about nursing. I used this realization as my motivation to push myself into acquiring new learning to be of service to other people. I am also motivated to pursue health service when I hear about news on people not being able to seek profession health aid. Health care is for everyone, I believe that every single individual has the right to receive proper health treatment. My main goal is to spread positive energy and influence to other people while remaining intellectually competent.
I acknowledge that the profession is not easy. It is both draining and painstaking due to the number of health concerns surrounding it. Smoking, for instance, is one of the major health problems in society. To be honest, I never liked smoking because it truly bad for one’s health. Some people do not understand the risk they are putting themselves in when they smoke. Some women, for example, continue to smoke despite being pregnant. If ever I do encounter such case, I need to be professional in handling the situation because of the delicateness of the situation. I need to explain to the woman that she is not only putting herself in danger but also the unborn child that she is carrying. Many complications in birth and in the future can come up due to her persistence in smoking. Once she has stopped smoking, I need to monitor her progress because they may be cases of lapses because I know that it is not easy to give up such practice in one go.
As a professional, it is required (if not demanded) that we set aside our personal biases and prejudices in sacrifice of our patients’ needs. It is always expected that we will look beyond the surface details so that we can perform our duty to the best of our abilities. In the case of the pregnant smoker, despite me not liking smoking in general. I still need to give service to her because she is a patient that needs my help and assistance. On a general note, nursing calls for someone who is willing to give up personal biases for others. I am someone who looks beyond the race, social-economic status and background because I know that everyone has the right to be better.
In addition, honesty is important in the profession. If ever that during training someone who lies just to get away with something, I need to speak the truth. If my fellow students, for example, who is afraid to give someone a bed bath claims that he or she did despite not really performing the task. I need to call his or her attention because it is for her own good. He or she needs to learn to conquer her fear so that in the future he or she can do it. I need to inform my instructor about it so that he or she is given extra attention in terms of performing the task. Since giving bed bath is important in nursing, it is definitely for us to learn it.
What I have mentioned earlier, on my part I can offer my signature enthusiasm for the field. I believe that my mind-set towards nursing will help me propel over the adversaries I will encounter along the way. it would be good if I can affiliate myself with health institution and people who shares the same passion towards healthcare. These goals will help me gage myself in terms of capabilities in skills needed for the career. I will also continue immersing myself in volunteer activities to get as much practical experience as I can. The profession in nursing, in my humble opinion, is about committing yourself to others. I do not look at it as a job because I enjoy what I do and feel really rewarded doing it. I am willing to give myself for the service of other individuals. I acknowledge that it requires many sacrifices, it is emotionally, mentally, physically and even financially challenging. Despite all of these, I am still willing to egg myself to keep going because nothing is more fulfilling than to see individuals rise above their health conditions and recover. I feel that I have prepared myself well for this instance that I will finally make my life-long ambition a reality. I am mature both physically and mentally to overcome hurdles. I want to give people a reason to change their situations. I love to see people recovering from their illnesses because it not only makes me proud but also accomplished.
