The United States of America is known all over the world for its so many names and titles. However, the country with the highest quality of health care is not among those title. In fact, in 2000 the United States ranked 38 among the 101 countries included in the World Health Organization’s list of Health Care System in the world . This rating was earned despite leading the per capita spending on health care issues and concern. In the 2010 online article, it enumerated the United States taking the spot among the seven highly industrialized nations in the world. Included in the list that beats the US are Australia, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand and the United Kingdom .
There is a seeming inconsistency in the value that the people in the US are getting as far as service is concerned in the amount they are spending for their health care delivery system. In fact, the Netherlands is spending only $3,837 per capita on their health care compared to US $7,290 and yet the Netherland’s ranked first in the overall health system performance . This is not the only aspect that the US is trailing behind on the issue of health. According to the article published in the New England Journal of Medicine it revealed that the US is also doing very poorly in important statistics like mortality rate. In fact, infant mortality rate is high in the US, thereby placing the country in the 39th spot and it placed on the 36th place as far as life expectancy is concerned . Similarly it has been pointed out that the US is also performing poorly in addressing diseases that are highly preventable as in the case of obesity In addition to the growing plethora on why spend much an get very little, another issue that confronts the health care delivery system in the US is the failure of the nation’s leaders to create policies that would mandate pharmaceutical companies and hospital to provide affordable and extensive health coverage for the people when it is supposed to have that ability to enforce laws.
In conclusion, it can therefore be asserted that the political leaders of the US should do something about the statistics and ensure that the people in the US are getting their money’s worth. That includes formulating laws that would facilitate for efficient, accessible, and high quality level of care for citizens to ensure that it will lead to a healthy life.
