People have various beliefs about God and his existence. These beliefs were formed after human being started to wonder about realities of things around him. When human beings see things and phenomena evolving, they began to question who is responsible for such an evolution. When they observe the land, seas, oceans, mountains, they do ask themselves who has created such a beautiful world with perfection? Intelligent minds carry out research by reading books and discussing their queries about the existence of life and the world with the elderly as well as the scholars in their community. The very common answer they would get is that there is a creator who made this beautiful world and all living beings and he is still running this world with all his glory and pride.
Heschel and Joshua mentioned that the concept of God’s existence is different in different religions, however; the core belief is the same. For instance, Christians and Muslims believe in one God whereas Hindus believe that there is no one God and there are several Gods who are assigned with one duty at a given point in time, the Romans have an entirely different ideology on God, and the beliefs of Chinese are quite the exclusive too.
I am a Christian who was enrolled at the Felician College. I believe in God and I understand that he has created a human being and life and he is still around us. We pray to him whenever we want to thank him or even when we are in trouble, we seek his help. Felician College promotes diversity. Students belonging to various backgrounds and cultural beliefs study here. Most have different concepts of religion, cultural background and of course, God. I have observed many students from the various perspectives and reached the idea that some of them believe in the existence of a creator whereas others believe that the world has been there since ever and there is no one entity who is looking after us and the world where we dwell. It has been an interesting experience to find out how people have formed their beliefs over time and how these beliefs have become enrooted into their personality.
The Felician College is run by a group of Christians who believe very strongly in God and visit Church often. At the campus, there have been placed holy figures at various spots to strengthen the faith of Christian students as well as make those belonging to other religions to develop an insight about God and Christianity. These holy figures are known to me and me everytime I pass by them, I do feel a strong connection with my faith but these are not new to me since I have grown up looking and understanding the hidden meanings behind each of these figures.
In order to further strengthen the roots of Christianity at Felician College, a church bell rings during the day hours which means a call to prayer is being made. The sound coming from that bell may sound very common and traditional to many but those whose heart and minds are filled up with love for religion may find pumping in of more spirituality within their soul.
One campus of Felician College has been located right next to a Church so as to encourage the Christian students to make a pray during their free hours or after their classes are over. Moreover, one of the campuses of Felician College is located right adjacent to Felician Franciscan Sisters Convent. This is a great opportunity for students who are Christians to broaden their understanding of religion as well as fine tune their existing knowledge on Christianity. This also provides the Christian teachers and students to interact more often with the Father and nuns so as to revive their religious beliefs.
Everyone in the community is aware of the fact that the Felician College is strongly committed to imparting religious education apart from the basic curriculum based learning. Christian parents find the college a great platform for grooming their children’s personality as per the teaching of their religion. Christianity focuses on strong character building which is one reason why parents choose Felician College over other institutions.
It is really overwhelming to see that students who are not Christian and believe in other religions are a part of Felician College and they express their interest in learning how Christianity sees the concept of God. Without any biased behavior, the members of teaching staff, as well as fellow peers who are Chrisitans, treat their fellows belonging to various religions with equality, respect and love so as to create a positive example of their religion across the community.
