Introduction
In reference to my military involvement, I am not really sure if it shows on my face, in my demeanor, but I am thankful for it. I consider it nothing less than a privilege to serve in the branch of military in which I serve. Just the fact that I live in a country that is established to the point that it is financially able and willing to provide this kind of experience to a young person seeking advancement for the pursuit of a place in life makes me more than grateful for this opportunity. I realize that all of the applicants or people interested in the armed forces do not make it into these branches of service, and I keep things like that in mind. For me, I think that just the fact that I have met the requirements necessary to be a part of the armed services is a gift to me. The experience of the aspects of discipline, hard work, dedication, allegiance, the bravery that comes from the comradery of many souls coming together to work for a common goal, the defense of our country is a noble and worthwhile pursuit. All of these aspects together motivate me to carry on, and to continue to achieve the goals I have for advancement, and achievement, both in military service, and beyond, because I also have other things, dreams I have had for most of my life, that I would like to do. In this paper, I will reply to what is asked concerning my future following my years in service to my country in question and answer format. Please note that from my speak, I really do have a lot of ideas, and these have come from several years of hope that I can get to the careers that will culminate in the fulfillment of my big dream.
Questions and Answers
1). What are your plans after being in the military for seven years? I have several plans I would like to see come to fruition as a result of my having been in the military. As much as I value being in the armed forces, I have had dreams of several venues I have wanted to pursue since I was a child. Everybody has their particular dream, but there are two main dreams I have in mind and want to pursue. When I was younger, I watched as one person I know, and was very close to me—an adult cousin who seemed to be like me, and had certain dreams like I did—end up just talking about theirs, because sometimes sad things happen, and bad things happen to people who are essentially wonderful and positive people. But still that cousin kept talking to me, trying to inspire me. Despite and still, they are working only to try to make ends meet. From that time, seeing that happen to that cousin, I started wanting to do more for my life. Every skill I learn in the military, I plan to use it, in one way or another. One plan is for survival. If I cannot find work at what I really want to do immediately after military, I will pursue something close to what I would do with the skills that having been in the military would put in my hands at the moment, while I keep working on the real dream I want to come true on paper, if nowhere else for now. I know without a doubt I will have to have additional funds to meet the requirements of living expenses and savings for my future interests, so my immediate thought is to work at something that would require some muscle. I have considered several positions that will hold me, part time at least, because I also want to attend college as well. I will be enrolled in the courses I will need for the big dream, as I said before. Should a job become too difficult to do while I continue my education, I would have to look for another one while I keep the one I have, because I need the stability of the income, of course. I would only leave one when I am sure that I have security for sure in another one. Any position of defense within the civil workforce would be excellent for me. That would hold me, part time, at least, because I also want to attend college as well, as I said before. I will be enrolled in the courses I will need for the big dream. I am hopeful that my military record will really be an asset for me in my part time work and my study.
2). What are your plans for employment? As I’ve stated before (and maybe too early), I plan to be employed, at least part time, in a job related to my work in the military. In accord with the state unemployment rate, which as of the latest measurement this year is 5.2, and is considerably low compared to some other areas in the country, I consider my chances good (Brainerd, 2016).
I will more than like take on a security guard job, because it would be easy to maintain while I stay in college. I would be willing to accept a job customized with the work from my military experience. I would consider a position as a bodyguard, depending on what the job would include, and the time I would have to invest in it. As I’ve said, I do not want to forget the dream while I’m working. I would even consider a driving position, that is, if I cannot find a position in the other areas. At any rate, I need a job that is relatively easy to maintain. This does not mean that I will not be dedicated to what I do; It only means that complicated work means more energy put into an area that takes away from my dream. Of course, I want to do quality work at any position for which I will be hired; I will be dutiful, because I have been trained to be that way, and do what is necessary. I just don’t want to become too caught up, or become complacent, get weary, and to settle in on something unsatisfying, and just menial for the rest of my life. I don’t want what happened to my cousin to happen to me also. I do not want give up what I really want to do, because I do have dreams worth the work to make them come true.
3). What are you doing about education? I see myself as a student of Pasadena City College, studying in the field of human resources. Incidentally, if a job should come up in this area, I would be glad to take it. However, my study is more geared toward my future beyond this field more than being a integral part of just this particular field. The reason why I chose this field is that it will lead to the establishment of the dreams I have. I want to see the business side of running a business without the complications of going through the study of business. My other justification for pursuing human resources rather than business is this: It is easier to find a position in human resources, working in a “people person” job, than pure business. Maybe this is just an opinion. But when I looked at the opportunities that are possible with human resources study, I felt that just go for majoring in business without the funding to begin a business, I wouldn’t have funds to just start the business. I also would not have the advantage of viewing the aspect of working with people, first hand. Even though a major in business would be a purist way to get to what I want, human resources has the real perk for me, and it is simple to me. Brownie Wise, the woman who started work in the company known as Tupperware, once said, "If we build the people, they will build the business.” (Wise, AZ Quotes, 2016). It is also my belief that with human resources, you also get both the benefits of learning business and people. The amenities include, and I quote not just from my own knowledge but a good database, U. S. News and World Report, Careers, which states that, in studying human resources, these “professionals have five major specialties: compensation and benefits; training and development; employment, recruiting and placement; information systems; and employee assistance. The work requires analytical skills, a fresh perspective and business knowledge. A human resources training specialist may have a different set of tasks to complete every day, ranging from recruiting or training new employees to answering questions about employee benefits and addressing compliance issues.” (U.S. News and World Report, Careers, 2016).
Also, and as I have said before, this is a good opportunity to assure me a secure job when my study is done, and it will help me immeasurably with the dream I have in mind.
4). Do you plan on going into any entrepreneurship venues? Thank you for this question. Finally, I have arrived at the top question of the entire essay. This is the fun part. My answer to this question is a definite yes, and in two venues. These two venues are the reason why I am willing to pursue a degree in human resources. They both have been my dream for a long time, to pursue my true and favorite two interests, and to have a career, as well as to be an entrepreneur in both of these areas. Of the two interests, my number two interest is real estate. I have always wanted to be a part of the real estate market. However, unless some miracle happens, I know I will more than likely have to build my way up to this area. My interest spans from the desire to own land, to homes, and properties as well, which includes everything from businesses to anything else. I realize I might have to work in a smaller area of the market before I can branch out. However, I have hope. As far as finance is concerned, I have hope, and a plan. Starting from my savings accrued from other work I’ve done, my years in the military, my part time work, and all else I will do in future will be an amount of interest that I can put into be best account I have, and hope will make a real nest egg for my future interests. I have done some reviews of what would be the best way to save, and to invest in the future. I have decided on savings in a reputable bank, and keep it there, for the most part. I have been, in the meantime, beginning to learn how to look at the stock market. It’s something I thought I would never understand, but I’m starting to take a look at it from penny stocks investing, at Penny Stocks online. (Penny Stocks, 2016). I’m going small time, now. But one never knows when a little idea, some good investments in the right upstart company, along with the right insight at the right time might come to something big one day, and maybe sooner than I know. This is my hope, at least.
My number one dream, if all my plans work out for me, is to have a business that deals in my favorite art, which is the design and, hopefully, a line of, and the sale of, hats for men and for women. This is the dream of my life. As I have said, from an early age, I have been interested in fulfilling this dream. I did not know for sure where to start when I was young, but I think I have a good chance, if my plans work out. It all started when I began to have an aptitude for wanting to know how things are made. At age eight, I almost wore out a certain book called Childcraft, a book that explained how to make all kinds of products, like buttons, different flavors of ice cream, peppermint sticks, gum, and all kinds of other things. Ever since I first looked at that book, I have wanted to be a inventor, or a designer. This is my lofty dream. I have been working on designs, and have a collection of them. I keep several portfolios of my designs. I actually have only a few designs I have really took the time to make and for good reason. It’s not because I don’t want to make them: It’s because I want to keep my designs under wraps, in secret for the most part, because I want to arrive and be the first to produce the ideas I have. I even have an idea that I would love to introduce to produce many styles out of one hat. I realize that this will need a copyright, if not several other patents on my designs, but I want to prepare for getting the patents done, because patents are expensive. Aside from my military career, my dream about real estate, and studying in the area of human resources, this is what I really want to do overall. I am not sure at this time what dream will start to produce first. I don’t know if my savings will get me to the point where I can really invest in real estate in a big way. I’m not sure of these things because I am only just at the beginning of making my dreams a reality. But I am sure what venue I prefer. Making, and designing hats. After I’m done with studies at school, even before, if possible, I want to get my collection of designs out there. I know I will be successful. I just need to stick to my plan. I also would like to do something that I consider an extension of the work I would enjoy. I want to include at least a couple of family members in my work. Those who are truly interested, very positive, a couple, maybe three of them at the most who are very easy to get along with, and show other good qualities necessary for production success, will be employed by me, if I get to where I want to be. One of the relatives I want very much to work with me is my cousin who do did not see their dreams come to fruition. I am very hopeful about this, and hope that all of this will become a reality.
Conclusion
All in all, I have enjoyed answering these questions. This essay has helped me to verbalize all of the aspects of my life plan, and I now have a written essay of my dreams to remind myself of the reasons why being in the military, going to school, working, saving, and investing in my future is very important. This paper has also given me a chance to see and really think about what I want in life, and read it out loud. I am very grateful for this experience, and can only wish that other people in my life had the opportunity to do the same. As I’ve stated before, I hope that I can give them a chance, too. Dreams are important, because if we are willing to plan, and work for them to become reality, they might happen in real life.
