An Argumentative Paper about the Books Good Man is Hard to Find (1955) and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wing (1965)
Introduction
This essay is about the books Good Man is Hard to Find (1955) and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wing (1965).
"A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor talks about a Southeast family that is about to begin a journey through the South. Misfit with his group murders the whole family members. O'Connor's primary social issue was societal hindrances. All through the story, there is consistent evaluation among those who fit in to community compared to the world's misfits.
“A Very Old Man with Enormous Wing by Gabriel García Márquez talks about a family who discovers an old man on their courtyard. They consulted local authorities, town priest and neighbor about the old man but no one has beneficial information. This is a tale of what occurs when an angel arrives.
There is a significant perception to the Misfit's character. He is curious and a kind of person who asks big questions. He's thought about religion that's why he took action the way he's thought about (99).
The grandmother is the first one to turn the discussion to religious area. Almost nothing in the book directed that religion is a significant aspect of her life. It is interesting that the grandmother is looking straight down the Misfit as if she's discussing from the standpoint of her own self-righteousness (106-107).
Quotes from the book “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wing”
Pelayo and Elisenda begin to suffer as the angel's suffering begins. They don't maintain his place clean so they have to cope with the smell (11).
The situation of the angel gets a lot more miserable as he stays with the family and as he grows older. They just hope that he would go away. It's something common to anyone who had to take care of an aged and ill family member (12).
Conclusion
The books discussed about an evaluation among those who fit and ‘misfits’ in a community and what takes place when an 'angel' arrives. It also talked about sufferings and old age.
