Racism occurs when people use races to categorize themselves into different racial groups. These different groups form different races. When people are grouped into different races, some groups feel superior to others while others feel inferior and thus feel insecure. Racial discrimination manifests itself when some groups of people feel superior than other races which in turn lead to unequal distribution of economic resources as a more superior race tend to discriminate others in terms of resource distribution.
Stereotypes are unproved ideas of some categorize of people. These are based on racial differences, tribal lines, their sexes and the number of years of a person. Stereotypes may be positive, for example when certain groups such as women do not complain about the persecution they undergo for example when beaten by their husbands. Although stereotypes can be positive, in most cases stereotypes are unconstructive and are always directed towards certain groups of people which other group think are non superior compared to them. This type of stereotype manifests itself usually during the time of political campaigns when certain groups see other groups as useless or regard them as inferior. These normally create hatred and suspicion in the society. Stereotypes lead to differences in the society. When such differences are created in the society people will not have peace and thus insecurity rises.
Prejudice refers to the peoples’ way of thinking, their ideas and what they belief about certain community. Discrimination is a prejudgment originating outside the actual experience. When certain groups believe that other groups of people have certain characteristics which they do not like they normally discriminate those groups basing on such believes. Certain groups of people may be discriminated basing on such believes for example some communities may be discriminated due to the believe that they are thieves which might not be true and thus prejudice leads to division in the society.
People develop stereotypes when they are unable or unwilling to obtain relevant information for the purposes of making the right and fair judgments about other people or situations. Most stereotypes are always unfavorable and thus lead to unfair discrimination and persecution of certain groups of people. We normally create stereotypes about certain groups of people though we may not have had first hand information. These stereotypes may make us to hate certain groups of people and may even lead to discrimination of such people. Stereotypes may evolve from fear of certain minority groups such as fear of mentally ill persons as dangerous groups. This may lead to discrimination and isolation of such groups of people.
Stereotypes normally lead to discrimination of disadvantaged groups. Women and minorities are the most affected groups. Women and the minority are often discriminated in the fields of employment, politics and even business. In the field of law prejudice also is seen when the two races for example the white and black are facing judgment against murder. The African has high probability of being sentenced to life imprisonment as compared to the white man.
Stereotype, racism and prejudice all have negative impacts on the political, social and economic lives of the people. All these lead to discrimination of certain groups basing on their races, beliefs and ideological differences. Discrimination has negative impacts on the economy of a country as it leads to unequal distribution of resources.
