Part A
The sociologist of have looked at the society setting at three different perspective i.e. interactionist, functionalist and conflict. These perspectives influence how the individuals in the society behave and interpret things around them. This individual behavior is what constitutes the culture of the whole society of a given place.
On the interactionist point of view, symbols hold values and certain meaning in the society. The human being in any society uses symbols to interact and understand each other so that they can live in harmony. However, however, these symbols keep changing, and new ones are being developed. Sometimes individuals derive a different meaning to a particular symbol that result to a disagreement. As a result, there is a disruption in the social order in that particular setting.
The conflict perspective is the struggle for survival nature in individuals and society in general. The humans are always in competition. Every individual wants to have of everything and be the best. This competition in the society is what brings changes in that every individual is looking for new ways to better themselves and the society in general
The functionalist perspective sees that every member of the society has a critical part and purpose to play in the society. This defines why individuals are blessed with different talents and ability to serve the rest of the society. This is what brings order in the society since everyone has his or her place in the social setting. We cannot be all teachers or doctors. Everyone has his or her distinct environment to operate. When one individual tries to do another individual function, the social fabric is disrupted.
The television has a big role to play in the society especially the sports analysis panel. This individual must use words and symbols that can be understood by everyone who is viewing the show. The analyst must bring out the competitive nature in the sport clearly, so that the view can appreciate the sport. The panel must also make the show most interesting so that they can compete well with other sport shows in other channels
Part B
Social imagination is the ability to disengaged and pull oneself away from daily routine or society settings to think and evaluate things in the society critically. This is the ability to connect the present situation to a previous action in the past that contribute and influence the changes that are being witnessed now.
On December 15, 2012, a gunman walked to elementary school in central Connecticut on Friday and brutally massacred 20 children and several adults who include his own mother. Many described the young man as disturbed always In conflict with other while seeking for attention. This is one of the many examples of gun shooting conflict many communities and the country at large is facing now (Barron, J. (2012, November 14). There is no clear policy to deal with people in possession of guns in our community. This has brought many conflicts on whether to ban personal gun license or should the citizens allowed to own guns. The shooting forced many schools to install gun detecting buzzers so that to prevent another shooting from occurring again
