The thesis of this article is that mothers should have the right to murder their children after birth since it is similar to abortion. Abortion is a very controversial issue in the world since people believe that it is against their ethics. However, according to the article, many first world countries have passed laws legalizing abortion. It is believed that fetus is not a person and therefore can be aborted. Therefore mothers should have the choice on whether to kill their children few hours after birth since the newborn still is not a person and does not possess the moral right of living. Since abortion is carried out even for reasons that are not related to the health of the mother or the child, then after birth abortion is ethically the same since it involves killing. There is no much difference. A baby can be aborted a few minutes before birth, there is no difference if the child is first born and then killed moments later.
This article is related to the text book in that it involves an issue that all members of the society do not agree on. In addition, the author uses evidence to support his position. The book also uses evidence as a way of supporting its arguments. Abortion is generally an issue that is discussed by many books.
Generally, the article has a clear thesis statement such that an individual can be aware of what the article is all about by looking at the introduction. The arguments are strong since they are related to abortion which has been accepted in first world countries. However, I do not support the arguments in the article since I am also not convinced that abortion is ethically acceptable. The article however lacks a good conclusion. It is difficult to know the stand of the author regarding the issue being discussed. This is a weakness of the article.
