The first reading on the “Less for Less Yet" is important because it articulates the idea of creativity in the architectural field. It argues that the modernist has been having the problem concerning the beliefs held about the architectural ideas and how these ideas are being perceived in the society. It is important because it helps to identify and consider architecture as an idea of being creative in the society. The article puts across that the architectural creativity is the chief gift to society, and thus, it is important for the people to understand its importance. As compared to other fields that articulate for creativity, the architectural creativity has not been seriously considered in the society (Michael, 2001). Furthermore, the article is important because it gives out the importance being creative for the engineer to satisfy the needs of the clients. Sometimes, the client might come to the engineer with an ambitious project accompanied by a tight budget and thus out of the creativity; the engineer can satisfy him or her with such tight budget.
The article’s strength is the way it has connected the idea of creativity with the architectural designing. It is significant because out of the creativity, the engineer can easily come up with ideal projects that satisfy the needs of the clients despite their budgets. The weakness of the article is that it does not address the specific requirements that engineers should have to satisfy the curiosity of the clients and come with ideal projects (Michael, 2001). The designed question can be: What is the relationship between creativity and quality of the architectural design?
In conclusion to reading this article, it is important for an engineer to have creative thinking ability as it is directly proportional to the quality of the architectural design created. It is through the creative thinking in architecture that the old buildings can be improved to meet the current market value.
The second reading about the “Ecological Literacy: Education and Transition to Postmodern world” is also significant because it talks about the issue of sustainability and the building of the postmodern world. The article argues that it is important for people to engage in activities that ensure sustainability and those that promote the conservation of the environment. It argues that the world is faced with an increase in population, and if the environment is not protected, the coming generations might be affected (David, 2004). The statement given by the article concerns the three crises that face the current world. The first crisis is the food crisis; the second crisis is the horizon crisis caused by the exploitation of cheap energy and finally the crisis on the global climate change.
The main strength of the article is its ability to articulate the importance of environmental conservation (David, 2004).Even though the article articulates on the importance of concerning the environment by engaging in sustainable activities, it does not provide critical measures that should be taken on those violating the regulations concerning the environment which becomes a weakness of the article. The design question can be: “What benefits can the world achieve through sustainable activities?"
Concussively, it is significant to provide such an article because it talks about the conservation of the environment to achieve sustainability. Through the reading, people can understand how to achieve environmental sustainability by engaging in activities that ensure less pollution of the environment.
