This chapter tells us about how not to fear the presentations. The author is talking about speech apprehension and speech anxiety. He makes us feel better by giving the example of different statistics and stating that people feel nervous by giving speeches all the time. This chapter teaches us many techniques on how we can avoid this speech anxiety. We learn that positive thinking is very important. It is pivotal to stop overthinking and fight our fears. There are many techniques. The author provides us with the table that helps to fight the presentation fears.
Part 3 Response
This chapter is very useful. I have not realized before how many people fear to present. For some reason I have always thought that I am alone in this speech battle. Also, it was very interesting to read how our body reacts to what we are feeling and experiencing at the moment. I think that positive self talk is a very important technique to fight the stage freight. I have realized that I have been using positive self talk multiple times. Also, I have been impressed by the approach of affirmation. Sometimes it is important to accept the fears in order to fight them. Overall, this chapter has been very useful because many people fear public speaking and this chapter has many useful skills to fight the fear. Modern world demands people to give presentation, if they want to get something out of life. Therefore, we need to learn more techniques to be proficient in the area of public speaking.
