One strongly believes that Michael Moore asserts that there is something wrong with the American system of education, in terms of apparently producing graduates who lack a more comprehensive knowledge on diverse issues and concerns. Moore’s article is effective in terms of persuading the readers on the veracity of this statements through the provision of examples which are contemporary, known, and through the use of familiar celebrities, politicians, and famous personalities who allegedly fall under the category of appearing to be knowledgeable; yet evidently manifests or admits ignorance. He uses the different types of rhetorical appeal (through logos, ethos, and pathos) to convince the readers that his arguments are well supported. He also uses tones ranging from irony, humor, satire, and even adhering to the frank brutality of which he was apparently known for. Likewise, he uses a writing style that is highly professional; yet effectively selecting the appropriate use of vocabulary to cater to a wide range of audience.
Concurrently, Matt Groening, in his “School is Hell” cartoon strip, the author contends that initially, educators might seem to project an image of support by initially welcoming the students and providing them with options from which they could choose from. However, eventually, the message that the educator relayed focused on teachers being autocratic, demanding, degrading, and delivering negative statements that provide students with the impression that school, indeed, is hell. The message relayed is tied to Moore’s arguments in terms of successfully encapsulating through a visual representation that the educational system needs significant improvement since it apparently teaches the students an incomplete facet of the knowledge that is required; as well as it fails to provide the correct instructional approach and methods needed for the holistic academic growth and development of students.
