The process of introducing design in an organization should be easy and the design should start producing its value on the first day of its introduction so that the people involved are kept motivated. Few tips that can help an individual get the best out of a design include keeping the whole thing simple, use of management tools, helping clients to familiarize with details of the design and integrating the design at all its operational levels. Design has been around for many years only that currently, many people have discovered design to be a valuable tool with which they can use to address issues that do not essentially comprise a product to manufacture for sale. It is now imperative for business and design schools to open new paths for students to acquire design skills.
Design provides four directions (powers) which can be utilized in creation of value in management. The four directions are viewed as a system with the vision at the center. The design value model provides a common language through which the design profession can effect a change from project to knowledge based. This model enables management to converge with design. Design in an organization brings an added value in that it helps in discovering of the key problems while solving the problems experienced by both customers and the business. Embedding design in an organization brings new solutions, creates meaningful experiences and adds economic value at all levels of the business.
In the current world, organizational authenticity and end user relevance are seen as the vital success factors in innovation and design. Therefore, brand is seen as the inspiring and strategic driver for innovation. Design management professionals have the chance to help organizations accomplish their brand promise by provision of meaningful products to their end users. There are issues that deter integration of design in manufacturing companies. These issues include strategic issues such as lack of long term vision, operational issues such as untimely delivery of products, and cultural issues. There are three models for realizing leadership in design. These models include leadership guided by visionaries, platforms whose role is to nurture a design focus, and strategies informed by a design culture.
