I am 26 years of age, and am writing to request for a re-admission into UCSD, having called off a year from the institution. The previous year out of the university gave me adequate time to reflect upon my past, and I have learned that I failed to pay enough attention to my studies. Regrettably, I spent most of my time in things that were not in support of my studies in school. At fall quarter 2011, I failed two classes, which gave me the major drop of my GPA. At the time, I still did not know I was on academic probation, and only knew that I had to take Math 20C again and work hard on my studies. If I realized that I needed to save my GPA as soon as possible, I would not have taken three core classes at the same time. After I went back to Hong Kong for summer, I found out that I was academically disqualified. As a result, I learned one of the major errors that I made was failing to keep track on my academic status. Also, I should have met with my advisors more often, but, ultimately, I failed to pay a proper attention to my studies.
After I was called off, I worked in a company called Essence International, in Hong Kong, as an Intern. This can be an example to show my passion in the field. When I came back to the U.S., I attended SDSU for two semesters in order to get re-admitted to UCSD. Because I was not a regular student in SDSU, I did not have a chance to choose the classes and could only do walk-ins. During the first semester, I did not do well, but then I began to think of my family and my future. My parents have sacrificed a lot of their income on my education, hoping that I would be in a position to support them after my studies. In addition, a fact that I am a foreign student means that my studies cost relatively more than the local students. My dad is getting old and it has been a huge pressure on him. I believe that succeeding in my studies will help improve the financial status of my family. After spending two semesters of study in SDSU, I have learned that the most important thing about studying in the university is to work hard and maintain a good GPA.
In the future, I intend to fully attend all my lectures in order to obtain a proper understanding of the coursework. Taking good notes will also help a lot when I review the material at home. I also believe that consulting with my TAs and colleagues will help me get an in depth understanding of my class work. Additionally, I would meet with my advisors every quarter in order to keep track on my academic result. After all, I have learned to change my life style and understood that I was very poor at my time management, so I learned to improve it by making a time table every week in order to spend more time on my studies. Lastly, I deeply regret my inconsiderate and inappropriate decision to leave my studies, and only hope you will consider my request for re-admission. I will greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue pursuing my studies at UCSD.
