I would like to send my letter of inquiry and fundraising proposal to the local municipal council. In my town, there is a prevalence of homeless people. Due to their miserable living conditions, they are more prone to various diseases and involvement in criminal activities. Alcohol abuse among the homeless is also another major issue haunting their growing numbers. The local Municipal Corporation can help solve this problem by making a shelter(s) for the homeless.
The best way to resolve the issue in terms of effectiveness and speed would be to build temporary shelters around the local church and other places of worship. This, of course, will be achieved after the complete approval of church administrators. The reason to reach out to the municipal authority is their influence on the local community. Asking the government for funds to provide shelter would take time. The situation is already dire and waiting in the hopes of getting funds from the government is not the best way to resolve this problem. This solution does not immediately take care of the economic situation of the homeless. There is a high likelihood that homeless people have no jobs, which means that their shelter is only a part of the solution. It has already been considered that the Municipal Corporation at this point can only help in providing temporary homes. The boundaries of the problems have been defined to ensure pragmatic action.
The proposed solution has its roots in sociology or more explicitly, in Marxism. It might not be the most extreme form of Marxism, but it does involve the core idea. The orthodox design of sociological theory is that there is no public property. Homeless people are part of this social fabric, it is not sufficient to state that every man is responsible for their own fate. As part of this social network and to strengthen the social capital, one needs to think in terms of the society and step out of the trap of individualistic thinking. Not all homeless people end up on the street because of the choices they made in life. Some people have the unfortunate play of fate where they have miserable or addict parents, and they have no choice but to live on the streets. As part of the struggle to achieve a better society, it is the duty of the government and local authorities to formulate policies that help alleviate this problem. As mentioned earlier, the situation is only getting worse. And if this situation is not taken seriously on the immediate basis, in due time, there will be horrendous ramifications. The strength of conflict theory is significant and it might seem to refute the proposal for taking care of the homeless. However, if this conflict for resources is considered in the bigger pictures, there is still the need to take care of the homeless due to self-interest. It is in the interest of all to have a society where people have stable financial and physical health. A drug-free society with people that do not need to steal or rob for food can be construed as self-interest. In other words, the conflict theory does not refute the proposal, it strengthens it by bringing another perspective for endorsement.
