Strangely enough, the Peace Corps’ advertisement that reads, “Life is calling. How far will you go?” has been part of an inner voice resonating inside me for long enough before I actually realized that it was time to respond to life’s call for action. I have always believed that joining the Peace Corps means to be able to run the extra mile and help others better their lives, out of genuine passion for giving. It may took me a while to completely understand I was ready to take that extra step that could bring me closer to a life’s goal, but admittedly, the words of the Peace Corps advertisement have helped me come to terms with the real me and the purpose of my life, that of serving those that cannot serve themselves for some reason.
I am fully aware that my joining Peace Corps comes along a fully arranged personal and professional life in a way that would allow me to commit myself to the goals of the Peace Corps. In particular, I have informed my social circles of my new mission as a volunteer in Peace Corps and have taken the necessary actions to have nothing, emotionally or else, distracting me on my 27-month service. Since I was raised in a family where respect has always been a top value and principle, I could not help otherwise but treat my fellow people with dignity and the respect they deserve, showing the majesty of what lies within citizens of the United States, whom I will represent.
With all the aforementioned thoughts, aspirations and life’s dreams, I long to become part of a community, whose existence and actions play a significant role in opening the horizons of underprivileged people and allowing them to enter a new world, where everyone is privileged enough to have the right to decent healthcare, among others.
