Description
My task was to analyze the advertising strategy of Bourjois, which is a French cosmetics Company. The company often deals with the manufacturing of high-end make up products. I had no Idea of the company, and consequently, the first task that I embarked on was going on the internet in order to get more information regarding the company. I was able to get useful information regarding the activities of the company mainly from the company’s website. I further got information regarding the advertising process and Bourjois advertising practices from several different articles on the internet. I recorded things myself when presenting, and I watched the video and identified areas that I had problems and where I had to improve. I also presented my work to several friends and asked their honest opinion regarding the presentation. They made several suggestions to improve the work. I corrected my mistakes thereby making the presentation more authentic and professional.
Feelings
I have always been a good public speaker, and consequently, I approached the assignment with exceeding confidence. However, I encountered a problem when it came to the research of Bourjois Cosmetics Company. There was only limited information regarding the company’s advertising strategy on the internet, and therefore, I had to ensure that I go deeper and get more articles related to the subject matter. This was not easy and I had to discard many of the articles I got, for they were not credible enough. In terms of the presentation, I went in confidently, and delivered the power point presentation successfully. Admittedly, I should have maintained better eye contact with the audience during my presentation so that they would understand that I had taken great interest in my topic. Further, I felt that my voice was not loud enough during the presentation. This might have come out as nervousness whereas in the real case it was not.
Evaluation
I read the professor’s rubric clearly and strived to ensure that I follow all his guidelines well during my presentation. I ensured that I follow the professor’s notes regarding how to trace and identify credible and reliable sources. I made sure that I consult my friends in areas where I had little knowledge. Most of them were particularly helpful, and this enabled me to carry out my research and presentation in the right direction. Therefore, my major effort was to ensure that I sieve through right information required for the assignment and thereby make my work outstanding.
Analysis
I have been aware that when it comes to taking an assignment, time management is extremely important. Therefore, I ensured that I planned all the different tasks in a careful and systematic manner. I started my research learning what the company does in general. I then proceeded to its advertising strategy. I wrote several rough drafts and kept on revising them until I prepared my final presentation. This enabled me to have enough time to proofread my entire assignment and also to rehearse the presentation. I believe that I did a fantastic job except for a few likely mistakes. However, I have come to learn that every experience is a learning opportunity and every mistake offers a lesson. In this regard, I intend to take into consideration the different mistakes I made in the presentation so that I will not commit the same mistakes again.
Conclusion
I was extremely happy to take up this assignment because I knew this is an assignment that can make one innovative. These sorts of works challenge a person in terms of creativity, and put him on an information craze. Initially, I did have little information regarding Bourjois Company. However, on its completion I realized that I could be an expert consultant for the very company. The assignment enabled me to exercise my skills in time management and research. I was able to follow the professor’s rubric to the dot, and present the assignment in a way that I believed was satisfactory. I made several mistakes during the presentation; however, I believe that mistakes contribute to learning experience. Therefore, in the future, I will be able to make better presentations as I know my possible flaws and strengths. Furthermore, I have learned that presentation is about keeping the audience entertained. This is possible only if the speaker makes the topic interesting and convincing. My rehearsals truly did pay off.
Action Plan
In the future, I intend to increase my number of rehearsals in order to become more acquainted with the presentation. Further, I will also have to work on my eye-contact and other aspects of body language. This is because eye-contact is what keeps the audience attentive and interested. I underwent a lot of strenuous activity in collecting information regarding Bourjois Company. However, at the end, I feel that I have become a better person academically by understanding my strengths and weakness in my academic pursuit. I am determined to work on my weaknesses and improve my strengths in order to move ahead in the right manner in the future.
