Dear Admissions Review Committee,
I am sincerely grateful to you for taking the time to look through my application and for offering me an opportunity to be on the waiting list. Providence Day school has been my dream school for a long time and, at the time I visited the school, it appeared to be a perfect match for my interests and aspirations, therefore, if accepted, I would happily attend, in order to further develop my skills and sharpen my knowledge. I would like to use the opportunity to present my continuous and consistent interest in Providence Day school and update the Admissions Committee on some of my recent accomplishments.
At my current school I strive to do my absolute best, and it has taken me far by always getting A’s, including high school courses, such as Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, English 1, Biology 1 and Spanish 1. This summer I will be attending a camp “Human dimensions in biotechnology” at Duke University after getting a state recognition in the Duke Tip 7th grade SAT testing I took last year. It is a great opportunity for me to open up to new ideas and meet new people. New acquaintances are especially interesting and exciting for me, because I fit in very well socially and like to develop long lasting friendships.
I take part in as many competitions as I can on a regular basis. This Thursday I will be taking part in the NC State Math Competition, at which I got selected to compete in the Math 3 level test. Last month I have received the ‘Excellence in Biotechnology’ Award during the NC Science fair district 6 held in UNCC. Prior to this, I have also got a school award in January for the work on the same topic, which is Terminating Type 1 Diabetes. I will also be auditioning for the JSO (Junior Symphony Orchestra) in North Carolina soon. I have been playing the violin for five years, took part in many concerts, and played in school orchestra for the past three years. Providence Day school has a very good Orchestra team which, I am sure, will help me express and develop my violin skills.
I treat my extracurricular activities as seriously as my schoolwork and competitions. I took part in NC Science Olympiad competition held in March, and received medals in all my disciplines; 2nd in “Disease detectives”, 7th in Anatomy, and 6th in “Picture this”. I have also been in the F.P.S (Future Problem Solvers) club for the past 4 years, and it taught me how to face a challenging future scene and find innovative solutions on a global level. My team always qualified to states, and also went to internationals in Iowa in 2014, after winning at states. In internationals we have received 11th place among teams from all over the world.
I am a President of the student leadership team at my school. One of my accomplishments on this position is starting a tutoring club, where middle school students teach elementary students. I have also learned leadership and communication skills, as well as how to be responsible for my work, and enjoyed giving the community as much as I can. On Saturdays I volunteer to teach students at the “Eye level of Charlotte” education center located in South Charlotte. I am also a Red Cross volunteer.
Providence Day has a great tennis team, which I am very interested in joining. I have been playing tennis for five years in total and for the last three years in my school tennis team. I have also participated in many matches in USTA tournaments. I have a blue/brown belt in Taekwondo and currently persevering to get a black belt.
Providence Day school is a great example of PDS teachers and staff working together to help students achieve their dreams. I felt immense respect for the school and its staff, as I read about their amazing work. I would like to thank the Admissions Committee once again for reviewing my application, and I would be very happy to be matriculated at the Class of 2020.
